LA BALANDRA ROTARIANS ANNOUNCE 2008 BLACK AND BLUE MARLIN TOURNAMENT
La Paz, BCS Gold Cup October 2 – 5, 2008



The La Balandra Rotary Club of La Paz, Baja California Sur. is pleased to announce the dates of their upcoming La Paz Gold Cup Fishing tournament. This year’s tournament scheduled for October second through the fifth guarantees a total purse of $2,500,000.00 pesos which roughly translates into $243,380.00 US dollars. The first place marlin caught in Category ‘’A’’ is guaranteed $1,300,000.00 pesos (roughly $126,558.00 US) and, if over 400 lbs., a 2008 pick up truck when all conditions of the tourney are met. Their will also be a Category ‘’B’’ for catch and release as well as daily jackpots. The entry fee is $7500.00 pesos (about $730.00 US) per team of up to 4 anglers, with $2000.00 pesos (about $196.00 US) for each additional angler.

The La Paz Balandra Rotary Club was formed in July 1988. The Club has in the last 3 years been dedicated to the establishment of a Prosthetic/Orthotic Clinic. This Clinic has helped in the rehabilitation of over 80 adults and children in Southern Baja by providing them with the resources to improve their quality of life. In order to generate the resources for this aid The Rotary Club holds two annual Sport Fishing events in the city of La Paz, Baja California Sur, Mexico. This years list of beneficiaries has been expanded to include “Ciudad de Los Niños Y Niñas de La Paz” and “DIF” as well as the Clinic.

La Paz (Spanish for The Peace) is the capital of the Mexican State of Baja California Sur and an important regional commercial center. The city had a 2005 census population of 189,176 persons. Its surrounding municipality, which is the fourth-largest municipality in Mexico in geographical size, reported a population of 219,596 persons living on a land area of 20,275 km² (7,828.2 sq mi). It is easily accessed by several major airlines.
