Camping at punta chivato; Russ?

: : Every year we do a family camping trip to the hotel beach at PC. I was last in that area 12 months ago. I was looking at the latest fishing report and saw that someone posted that the campground near the hotel has been closed. All of the showers, trashcans and pit toilets have been removed. He said it is still possbile to camp but there is no infastructure and the garbage is piling up. Does anyone know anything about this to confirm or deny?

: : My backup spot is to go the beach that is to the north and round the point. You can get there via the dump. It is soft, soft sand over there but I think I can get in and out. No infastructore over there either but I think I can be self contained. Does anyone have an idea that this beach is still open for camping? Thanks, steve

The beach I showed Juan and Shari is called San Marcos Tierra. It is one of my favorite places. There is a pretty good road in to the estuary there.(photos) And hard ground to set up camp. There are a few visitors there from time to time so if you go there secure you stuff if you take long walks on the 6 or so miles of beach. The beach I think Steve is talking about we call Deadmans. There is a better way in at the North end and hard ground to set up camp and pretty good surf fishing in that corner of the cove. Swimming and diving is good too. Both are dry camps. Photo #1 is the camp site a San Marcos Tierra. Last years storm knocked down the trees but it is still a nice camp area.
Edit: the estuary mouth is closed now so the water in the photo across to the beach is sand.

Thanks for this, Russ. Do you have directions to the Tierra Marcos spot? I am also interested in how to get to the access road to the north end of dead mans beach. Is it possible for you to show me both spots on google earth?

The place i am talking about instead of the Hotel campground is just to the left of WP11. We love that beach but it is soft sand and somewhat exposed.

Don't see WP11 put is "Nude Beach" in this Photo what you're talking about? That's a very sandy trail. It's been fenced off now and it took a really good 4x4 could get to it before. Or a quad.

I need to grab my new camera and make a photo run of them again. But everytime I head out to do that I don't make it very far before I just have to stop and suck it all in. And before I know it I've run out of cold beers and have to head home. There are so many special places between here and San Bruno. Posible maņana:light:

Russ,

Are the facilities at the old camp ground (north of the Hotel) adjacent to "Hammerhead" no more? Last year they were still there but the perimeter to the north was fenced by the small sand dunes.

thanks

Russ, thanks for taking so much time with me. Yes, the beach I am refering to is just north of the Nude beach arrow. It looks like your pictures 2 & 3. I love the water and the sand at that spot. That is my plan at this point although i am somewhat concerned about taking my 4x4 and enclosed trailer down on that soft sand. I do have a winch if I get stuck. But still I have a big rig for soft sand.

So, my question to you is, can I still get there via the dump and is that the best way to go? steve

Ken, No services at the Chivato beach camp --- Steve, Porpoise right up on the beach not ten feet from where we were standing. Maybe 20 of them came in and went crazy right on shore. Nude beach is only accesible from the north camping beach or maybe behind the houses above it. Definitely not for a camper and any thing other than a quad will get stuck. Deadmans is still ok from the dump road but very soft when you get to the beach. The weather during the summer comes in fast and strong. Some gusts to 50mph and usually in the middle of the night. Your Zodiac would be a kite. Best bring it in. This year, since Oct. we've had much more than our normal amount of wind and so far this summer there haven't been many days to go off shore. But in shore there are lots of calmer areas and good rapala water. Water has been dirty too. Hopefully it'll all change soon.
