Help with Photo
On my laptop, this pix looked fine, but when I uploarded it to photobucket here at the Internet Cafe, it really looked dark and off color---don't know
if it is my computer, or the monitor here.
Is it really dark and off color on your computer?

Great shot. On my screen it is just a tad dark for I cannot see the strands of her hair between her ear and her bangs. But it is not so dark that it
distracts from the simple beauty of the subject.

Besides being beautiful, Alejandra is a really sweet girl.
Thanks for the feedback---I need to check out a few things as I have some more faces and the problem I am having seems to be with faces and not with
landscapes.

I lightened it in Photobucket---is it too light now? I am trying to figure out what is going on with my laptop.
Anyone know how to calibrate a laptop monitor?

Well, part of the problem must be with this monitor at the Internet Cafe. Here the first one is really dark---can hardly see her face and absolutely
no detail in the hair. The second one does not look washed out and the detail shows.
Need to check out my laptop again and keep working on this. Leaving real soon, but I would appreciate it if someone would add a close up face to this
thread. I usually use this computer at the cafe and that way I can see what the monitor does to another face picture. Scenery seems fine.

Diane, this picture of mine is also a little dark:
so I made some adjustments. I've never used photobucket, so I'm not sure that you have the same options (in the form of sliders to make adjustments)
that I can use in my iphoto.
First I cropped it, then I increased the exposure about 50% of the possible increase. Then I increased the sharpness, brightness, and saturation just
a little bit. Finally I straightened it a little.
If I had used only the brightness to bring it up, it would have had that slightly cloudy look. I think the sharpness control is key to balancing the
increased brightness in my program.

Hey Diane, one thing I've found with Photobucket, and all the image hosting sites is the images degrade a bit when you upload them to their site.
Only way around it is to upload the images to your own website which wont degrade them. I know every photographer complains about the image hosting
sites and what they do to their images.
One way around it is to bring your laptop to the internet cafe and adjust the pictures to what they look like on both screens. Basically so they both
look alike. If that makes sense?

Welcome to the world of Digital Photography. As a photographer I can tell you that there are so many great things about Digital Photography, but
there are so many new things that have to be dealt with.
The reason you are having trouble has to do with the color space that you are using. There are several color spaces (Adobe, RGB, sRGB, CMYK, etc.)
Here is a link to a great explanation

The web is one of the worst places to try and display images without making sure that you are using a color space that is used on the web site. sRGB
tends to be the common color space on the web.
Anyway, if you do some research you can compare what color space your camera is setup to take pictures with and then you can convert the image to the
same color space where you are posting it.
