I think that is cool how committed Toyota is with keeping their 4WD vehicles grounded in the dirt. I think Nissan is the only other OEM that comes to
my mind when thinking of keeping their advertising focused on real-world. Good bit of information, David!
I must add Hummer. Their H3 ads are pure backcountry, too. Not to forget Jeep, either...

It does the job and doesn't break down... Because the '01 Tacoma was perfect, no way would I jump ship when the 5 year lease was up.
The '05 has had a couple of issues (but no mechanical breakdowns) and I have reported them here... but they are way outweighed by the truck's
performance and comfort. It is almost 3 years old, almost 80,000 miles and oh, what a great feeling!
See http://vivabaja.com/msm for the truck on Baja's toughest road (that goes somewhere cool)!

PBS??? The left hates trucks and SUVs... no wonder they made you believe that was the news!
Here is what I just saw after doing a search:
Toyota Halts Tundra Production - Prius Production To Be Moved Stateside
Toyota is responding to changes in consumer demand and improving the production efficiency and stability of its North American operations by adjusting
production mix at three plants. The changes include the addition of the Prius hybrid sedan to its North American lineup.
The changes are as follows:
-- Prius will be built at a plant under construction in Blue Springs, Miss. Production is scheduled to begin in late 2010. Prius, which will join
the Kentucky-built Camry Hybrid as the second Toyota hybrid built in North America, enables Toyota to better respond to increased consumer demand for
hybrid vehicles.
-- The Highlander mid-size SUV, originally scheduled to be built in Mississippi, will now be manufactured in Princeton, Ind., beginning in Fall
2009.
-- Production of the Tundra full-size pick-up truck, currently built in Indiana and Texas, will be consolidated at the San Antonio plant in Spring
2009.
In addition, Toyota will temporarily suspend Tundra and Sequoia production beginning August 8 due to the declining overall market for full size
trucks and SUVs. Production is scheduled to resume in early November. Team members at both facilities, as well as the Huntsville, Ala. plant that
builds Tundra and Sequoia engines, will continue to be provided work.

Ah good Zac... what are you driving in Baja... and why?
As for what I said, that's what freedom of speech is all about, isn't it? Casa Manzana said right here that he got that 'news' from PBS (that's the
government network)... and they made him believe that the big truck production was over! The truth (or the entire story) was quite different!
Nothing mean intended... but pretty hilarious that PBS would only give part of a story to satisfy their producer's bias.
I am all about the whole story... whole truth... so everyone can make a good decision based on the facts! Isn't that a good thing?

Perhaps you missed one of these many news stories over the years. http://www.mindfully.org/Heritage/2003/ELF-FBI-$2_5M-SUVs23aug03.htm E.L.F. is just slightly left of center.

I'm with you Jim. I've torn up or worn out Rancho, Bilstein, KYB and monroe shocks on that road. A couple of years ago I melted the rubber boots on my
front Bilsteins on my Toyota. Last month I broke the bottom off a Rancho which in turn cut my CV boot throwing out the grease on my GMC.

So it's not just me? Glad to hear it. I usually end up "bluing" my shock shafts and blowing out the top seal.

Surfer Jim... you drive a Chevy truck! (but with the yellow Bisteins, too.. yes?)
My first Tacoma with the yellow Bilstein shocks never had a problem... even at speed on that road before it got beat up in Nov. '05.
My new Tacoma (bigger/ four door) also didn't have a problem with it's Bilstein shocks on that road... but the speed is much reduced from when I had
my previous truck... so not a good comparison.
As most of you know, the new, bigger Tacoma rear suspension was too soft (same springs and shocks as before, perhaps) so I added Bilstein 5100's and
Ride Rite Air Springs (air bags) to stop the bottoming out. That has worked totally sweet!

The irony for me is that this evening, before I read your post, Tracy and I were talking about the Toyota Tundra. I said something to the effect that
I"ll bet Toyota is taking it on the chin with the Tundra now that gas prices have risen so much. Common business sense led me to come to this
conclusion not my political beliefs,
No worries here. One question, though, DK based on our lingering discussions of past...if Toyota produced a Tacoma that got better gas mileage, would
you buy it? Of course you would. No reason the general public and/or government shouldn't demand higher fuel standards.
