Too much trash talk on this forum

No attempt to hijack this thread, but for one, I do feel that something should be said regarding this type of news

Don’t misunderstand me, I do not feel that I am alone in feeling that there has been entirely too much trash talk and posting on this forum that is outside the venue of Peace, Love and Fish Tacos!
Many previous, long time posters are no longer even looking at what is happening here due to the nature of what has become the norm for a select few posters. Enough of the news of kidnapping, murder, mayhem, etc. This news does not affect the majority of the readers here and therefore, without speaking for the majority, are tired to death of that type of news.
This does not put our heads in the sand, its just that its preferable to enjoy the good things about Baja. That includes the minor things of being overcharged occasionally, or having the Pemex in Santa Rosalia getting to us.
The reflection should be on the wonderful indigent people here who make our stay a memorable visit. I might stress VISIT, since that is what the majority of readers here are!

Oh, that must have touched you directly Caboron. Nice intelligent response!

I suspect that you are not a visitor here consequently all the above is, to quote a quote 'BS'. Sorry I do not have the computer technique to make such cute little notes, flagstaffs and all.

Now please explain what part of that post you feel is BS, the part about people sick and tired of the crappy posts or what?

Losfrailes,

You requested too much logic and clarity. Good luck getting either.

Although I tend to agree with Los Frailles, I guess we can just elect not to read things we don't like.

And yes, Ron's post is ........ not funny.

Not taking sides here, but I guess I don't see much point in posting news that can be readily Googled by those interested in the subject.

The Mexican people have to live with this stuff and they don't dwell on it - no reason why we should here . . .

Odd. I find judgemental comments like los Frailes to be the offensive, negative and discriminatory comments. I think an argument can more easily be made that the ol timers are the most abusive and negative posters and the informed inciteful newbies with their open minded questions and comments are far more in the line of what BajaNomads is about.

Who in their right mind would want to control what people post which is factual and relevant and extremely valuable to people who need to know what is going on and how to navigate Baja.

Its quite outrageous that a handful of posters who flood this board attempt to control the rest of the simply interested passionate and inquisitive posters.

If you don't like it, don't read it. Not that difficult to figure out. Or I suppose you are same person who wants to control newspapers, movies and radio and TV to only show your chosen message.

Go ahead keep it up but know that many, many of us disagree with you and the suggestion the only your messages belong here and not the messages from people of diverse backgrounds and interest.

On the other hand I really do respect your desire to tune out, so please if you get the urge, just tune out and enjoy the things you do enjoy and focus on those and not on others concerns. But do not oppress us with your mindset.

Hey- All I did was post a news article in the News section.

I wouldn't mind having a News section in the "off-topic" page if possible. Then you can keep the front page a superficial sugarcoating of what living in Baja is like for those with their heads planted firmly in the warm Mexico sand. Sadly- there's no Gringo Gazette on-line newspaper for current topics in northern baja (although there are some start-ups).

I never take message boards personal. Have said that- what's with the "get off the message board and just google your news" thing ? Googling and search engines only list what has already been published. You can't go forward in life looking out your rear view mirror. A Message Board is to find out what is going on now, in real time by a group of like-minded people (even if it's just finding the best fish tacos or where the fish are biting this week... lol). Knowing what is happening beyond the stories in print is the value of the internet, not the burden of it.

JMHO of course

Thanks for the post Woooosh - interesting information that I would have never read otherwise. (I probably would not have "Googled" Mexico Launches Anti-Kidnap Squad) Weird - I read it because it sounded interesting and I actually had the choice to click on it or not to click on it! Apparently others were somehow "forced" to read it! :O

No, actually my head and the rest of my body have been planted in Baja where my girlfriend's family employs bodyguards for her children.

Nothing against posting news - just think certain topics don't need to be revisited over and over . . .

I agree with losfrailes. Everybody knows about the crap being caused by the narcos and the cops. The folks that take delight in reading and posting about this stuff are weird in my book. KNOCK IT OFF!

Sure I could ignore all the bad news creeps and I try to, but who wants to login to a message board and decide what to ignore? Plus it's sort of like a car wreck on the freeway, ugly to see, but it's very difficult not to look.

And, the childish animated gifs!! It's like you little boys just found a new toy.

IMHO, news is fine....I was glad to read the article on kidnapping action as it is a hot topic around here and everyone wants to see heavier sentances and life would be a good one for those perps.

What we DO not want to see here is a destruction of this community board by a few who hurl personal insults at posters. It is sad that alot of people are too intimidated to post for fear of attacks...this is NOT healthy, nor useful and serves to destroy the forum.

So if there is a way to balance things out...a way where people would be responsible for their words that would be great and probably eliminate the horrible personal attacks. I only recently hit the report button but I think if someone sees an uncalled for attack, well, perhaps the report button should be used more to get rid of this type of unproductive, hurtful posts.

I wish there was a baja news rag where our news reporters here could post and all be bummed out together...misery loves company.

News is hard to bundle. All the action is along the border so that's where the news reporting is. If there was a good English language newspaper up north that you all read it still would probably run little of what happens down here in Mayberry. La Paz is our Mt. Pilot and San Lucas I guess would be Charlotte. Hard for good/bad/ugly news from these little towns to be of interest to the whole board as we are sometimes The Land that Time Forgot. I like it that way but it don't make good news -- that's why I post little fiction pieces for your consideration now and then.

LosFrailes has concerns and others do too... From the perspective of being here the longest after Doug, I know the junk comes in waves (like at Malarrimo Beach)... We have a period of trash or hate then it is calm and clean.

If the 'nice Nomads' can pick and choose what to read and ignore the crappy stuff then they (hopefully) won't get discouraged and leave this forum.

If you do see inappropriate postings, then click on the 'Report' button so it will go right to Doug's attention.

There are tens of tousands of posts here saved, the ones in the Trip Reports forum and the Historic Interests & Literature forum are great for reading or reference... If stuff on 'Today's Posts' or the General Baja forum isn't fun to read, then go back over the 6 years of contributions archived here until the 'butt heads' go away or are removed.

Don't give up on Doug or this forum... stay and keep it positive with YOUR trip reports, contributions and photos... the few dozen of us who post here daily or frequently are a tiny amount of the people who see and read what is here!!!

Thought that's what Baja News was for ... the news.

About our only source down here is The Gringo Gazette and The Baja Western Onion.

It appears to me that there are two separate issues being addressed here...first is the upswing in posts of legitimate & factual (sic) Baja News. As long as these threads are consistently started in Baja News, we can chose to read them...or not...at our own discretion.

The other is "trash talk",
Quote:
I am tired of the crappy posts. I've noticed the fadeout of a number of positive posters. I've strongly considered pulling the cord myself.

Doug, with all due respect, things are out of control here. Part of it is the hit-and-run coward(s) hiding behind a different alias every couple of days. Part of it is the lack of basic decency on the part of (often long-time) posters who think they don't have to be civil because they aren't taking the risk of insulting people directly to their face.

Due to the irresponsible, self-indulgent and inconsiderate behavior of a few individuals, this board is turning into a pigsty.
the name-calling, abusive & threatening comments, the bullies, the "cutesy" (NOT) intentional misspelling of obscenities to get around the clearly stated Board Rules disallowing lewd, cussing, swearing, obscenities, etc., the posts of semi-nude to nude pics, the graphic sexual videos, the personal attacks, graphic & lewd comments, the irritating action gif's, the immature nonsensical one-liner or gif hit 'n run responses...these are the types of posts that I personally find distasteful.

These types of posts disgust me. They are an embarrassment to me personally & IMHO demeaning to the site & members. If what we've been seeing/experiencing since Hose A resigned is any indication of the amount of time & effort he donated to this site, then he did even more than I realized to keep the board a clean & pleasant place!!

I too have noticed the absence of quite a few of my long-time favorite posters. I think it's a real shame that a few offensive & abusive posters have deprived the board as a whole of a wealth of knowledge & experience.

I know that there are a lot of folks here who are opposed to censorship, but it appears that even some the most vocal anti-censorship types might be starting to believe that there can be a benefit to weed out the worst of the hate-mongering malcontents.

I respect anyone's right to state their own opinion, I'd just like to see it done courteously & respectfully, in accordance with the Board Rules. Why have the rules is they aren't enforced?

It seems to me there's too much grey area in true identity disclosure, and I'm definitely not a techie nerd, but it seems like the logistics of setting up & administering that type of system would be a major programing nightmare!:O I wouldn't be opposed to it if it could be accomplished with what Doug would have to feel would be a "reasonable" amount of effort & maintainability...and I'd also need Doug's assurance that the information be proprietary for Doug's use only.

IMHO, the lack of respect & maturity of a few members is destroying an awesome site! I'd like to see one or more full time monitors/moderators who enforce the Board Rules. I believe in hindsight, we're probably seeing just how much benefit Hose A provided to the site & I feel finding a replacement Hose A(s) is past due.
