Malibu beach south of Erendira

I'm going there tomorrow morning for just one night to howl at the full moon with my dogs and drink a bunch of cold beers. I haven't been there in about 10 years.

Two questions, I'm not sure where the turnoff is to go south from the road to Erendira, is it real close to the ocean, and I'm wondering if it is likely there will other campers around?

I don't want to be the only one for safety reasons and a group of howlers is always fun.

Any info appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

The road to Baja Malibu Sur RV Park is (was) a 1/2 mile or so BEFORE the town of Erendira... crosses the arroyo valley and south through farm land. There were signs... It has been awhile since I was there (2000).

Take the road to the coast and look for the sign that directs you south at the crossing of the main Arroyo, this is also at the end of the paved road. Follow the signs for 3 miles to Malibu Beach Campground which is on the water. They have camping, for tenters and R.V.s, believe it or not they you can plug in and they have septic hookup.

The only problem is that the water is pretty finicky, so when the water is on, better hit the showers and/or fill up your water tanks!

Great spot, camped there for years, sand beach, great access south and north.

We were there at our casita south of Malibu Sur Campground last weekend for the baseball tournament (see Baja Geoff's post). I would suggest camping down by the volcano. Not too many campers last weekend, but, this time of year there are always people at the houses South of the campground, and the area there is very safe. Good for howling. Lots of Coyotes last weekend, so, to echo Woody, Cuidado con sus perros.

If you need anything, check in w/ Bob Daily at his compound, just south of the arroyo at the end of the houses. If he doesn't wan't to howl with you, he will will help you out with anything you need. He is an old school Baja explorer. He would be on this board, if it was a C.B. Radio instead of a computer.

Thanks to those who posted info. We ended up spending 2 nights, both with clear skies lit up by the full moon. It's always fun seeing your shadow in the middle of the night. Me and the 7 year old dog did some howling however I was disappointed I couldn't get the 8 month old pup to chime in. Maybe next month, he still has a lot to learn.

The first night was somewhat north of Erendira. We checked out Malibu and points south first and then drove north along the beach road for comparison. Decided to stay at a nice cove to the north. The second night we stayed at La Bocana de Santo Tomas, which I prefer to the Ejido Erendira area. I was happy to hear the frogs croaking in the river mouth during the night and to camp on the grass beneath a shade tree. The ejido running the farming operations in the Santo Tomas river valley appears to be doing a booming business. Looks and smells like it's close to green onion harvest time.

I think for September's full moon I'll head into the mountains southeast of Ensenada.
