Tijuana Mayor on NBC News

I just saw on the NBC National news several interviews, including one in Tijuana. Showed some graphic shooting video, as well as how Tijuana's mayor's house was shot up. The mayor commented how he shot back and had to put his family into hiding.

I saw it too. It wasn't the mayor, it was the chief of police.

Yes, that's who (Alberto Capella) was in the news piece.

They also said that Calderon has deployed 25,000 military personnel along the border in an attempt to stop drugs moving north and guns moving south.

It's about time Calderon took my advice. Is he a Nomad?

I thought it was 5 chiefs and 12 subcommanders at last count.
They drug terrorists are busy tied up with killing the police to be worried about the mayor.

I don't think you are that
But to answer your question only 2 and not in the last few years;
1.- Federico Benitez 1994 "Caso Colosio"
2.- Alfredo de la Torre 2000.
Stop inventing stories.

Do you know or do you not want to say.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

It's tough to constantly read about the bad things that are happening in TJ when you are a resident. I'm sensitive about it and I don't know how to stop being sensitive. It's not something that can be turned on and off.

I think it is true that there are people that for some reason take delight in kicking somebody (or a city) when they're (it's) down. It's a very crude and insensitive thing to do.

TJ is a huge city and most Americans have never seen the nice areas. Judging the city by what is in the press is like judging LA based upon the Watts riots. There was a time not too long ago where American cities were literally being burned by their citizens and violence was widespread. The point being that violence knows no borders.

What's happening in TJ now is a direct result of an admirable effort by the Mexican government to get rid of organized crime and the corruption of city officials and police officers that organized crime thrives upon.

Give us TJ residents a break and stop focusing upon the violence. Afterall, everybody knows about it.

Sensitive???? He wants you to be accurate.

The whole problem people have with all the negativity is the way it is being sensationalized by the delivery.

HEADLNES: Tijuana's Mayor on NBC News"

...with the body of the message saying his house was shot up...

Except that the TRUTH is that it was someone else....and it happened LAST YEAR.

It's irresponsible to throw out murder statistics like "I thought it was 5 chiefs and 12 subcommanders at last count." The truth isn't even close. Yet a casual reader may take that bogus "statistic" and repeat it.

It's irresponsible to throw out a headline saying
"Might be some bad news about a Nomad" without verifying the facts first...Antonio is our friend, and I was offended that the poster was ONLY interested in causing a stir. If he/she REALLY cared...facts woud have been sought out first.

So....What is your point? What do you want from us? Do you want us to acknowledge the naïveté of our years of happy travel posts here on Baja Nomad?

Do you want us to give up and stop going to Baja?

We are ALL aware of what's going on....What we DON'T need are your SCREAMING headlines and "statistics" that are totally BOGUS. :fire:

Jeans, I kind of had the impression that palmetto just wants you to be safe, in spite of your naïveté.

When you tell a 2-year old toddler, "Now little Jeanie, don't run into the street because you will get run over and killed"; is that irresponsible? Is that sensationalism?

By the way, the latest news is that the working theory of the investigators is that the gas station owner who was killed was actualy killed by agents of the state Attorney General's office in a bungled kidnapping attempt. That comes from the AG's office itself.

It's hard to know what is real in Mexico. Nothing is as it seems.

I don't know the exact number but I would imagine that it is over the dozen you are saying.
I repeat, I do not have a problem with the news, politics or anything else as long as it is truthful and you and your other lying rumour-monger friends just twist everything arround ALWAYS!
Do you think people that look at this board don't know how to go to a newspaper website? That is all you liars do. You can't even translate.
I recomend first you learn the language "FLUENTLY" and then offer your mediocre translations.
This entire thread started out as a flat out lie by someone that also seems to think they know the language

I do not think UDO who started the thread was lying nor has he translated anything here that I can remember.
My spanish is passable but I have never translated anything on this board.
I think you need to clarify which posters you are talking about here.

There goes a perfect example of how racism and class structure is so embedded into the Mexican culture. If you had said that in English it would probably get deleted.

I learned after my first cut&paste spanish post not to translate any other ones. There are members of this group who do a much better job at it, and I humbly relinquish that task.
