supermarket near SJD?
hola nomads. i'm flying into SJD for a first time visit to baja this week, and driving up to the east cape. can anyone recommend a supermarket on the
road towards la paz? how are the roads doing post-julio?

There is a pretty good supermarket in Los Barriles (Chapito's) if you're going that far. They take credit cards, pesos or dollars. There is a bank
with an ATM across the street.....dt

Hola boldstein. There's no real super market on the road between the airport and East Cape. But if you back track into San Jose you'll have Soriana
and Mega which have it all. Once you get to Los Barriles at the Cape there is "chapitos".

If you want to back track as Cardon suggests the Mega is really nice. It is like the Mexico version of Super Walmart. Driving through San Jose to get
there can be an adventure. I would take the toll road from the airport toward Cabo. The Mega is on the opposite side of the traffic circle at the end
of the toll road. After shopping go back on the toll road to where you started and on to the East Cape. The toll is 26 pesos each way, 5 bucks well
spent IMHO.....dt

dtbushpilot is right on. Mega is hard to beat and super easy to find and then get back on track toward East Cape. 5 bucks well spent indeed!

Use the toll road and go to Mega...the locals call it Comex BTW. It is by the traffic circle where the big yellow bow is...cant miss it
Chapitos is very expensive and not very reliable this time of year for fresh stuff...vegies and meats.

si, and they have a sur-charge if you use dollars. I actually paid $3.20 for a gallon of water there - only $1.00 in Miraflores at the gas station
store. What kind of groceries do you need? I would suggest you bring as much as possible such as nuts, dried fruit, dry drink mixes, cheese, dry
salami. Then pick up some chips, bananas, a cheap cooler, beer, etc. for the short term, and do your shopping in La Paz, or en route as you come
across it - like tortillas, fruit stands - check out San Bartolo for a side trip and fresh stuff - fun too.
