Paul Newman - May he rest in peace
Paul Newman died today at 83 years old. He was a great actor but he was also a race car driver for many years, even the Baja 1000. May he rest in
peace! Bob H

Grew up watching his films and he seemed bigger than life. Know people who spent some time with him in person and tell me that both he and his wife
were two of the classiest, most down to earth people you could ever meet.
See you on the other side Pablo. Say hi to a precocious little girl for me and tell her that Daddy misses her more than she could ever know...

I was about ready to ask this question in the racing forum but did Paul ever race in the Baja 1000 or 500? I don't remember him in any off-road
racing.

From: Baja Racing News LIVE! Baja 1000 Wrap Up
"The famous and not-so-famous have tried their hand at conquering the Baja and they have come from all walks of life. Academy Award winning actor,
racer and race team owner Paul Newman raced in the 2004 event."
I think this was his last off-road drive.

Paul Newman was a good person throughout his carreer, and well loved. A good husband to Joan Woodword, for 50 years. Made some 65 films, and started
up, and ran a successful food company. He donated all his profits to worthwhile charitys. Alot went to non-violent causes. He is going to be missed by
alot of fans. He had very few equals. ++C++

I am going to grab my bottle opener with chain put it 'round my neck and go to the local watering hole and hoist a few to a
real class act and a real "Cool Hand" The world needs more
sharing and caring people like Mr. Newman.

He'll always be Cool Hand Luke to me
If he had done nothing else other than make "Cool Hand Luke" it would have been a lifetime achievement to my way of thinking.
I guess it was Providence that we had been watching it for the last two weeks. I've got a personal library of my favorite films ("Sergeant York",
"Moby Dick", you know - the male stuff).
My son is adamant all week that we add "Cool Hand Luke".
You tend to think that Paul Newman was like the character. I don't know ... I'll bet these roles rub off on the actors. Just like viewers. The Gary
Cooper character was a great influence in my early years, and therefore probably still remains so.

Though I didn't know him personally, he seemed like a real nice guy. I grew up on the streets of NYC and really related to his "Somebody up there
likes me" role. He didn't appear to be like some of the other marooons we have for actors today who try to push their agendas on us.

2004 BK1000
Newman raced the 2004 Baja 1000 BK1 with Bob Sutton of Centrix Financial (leftside).. They ended up 4th in class in the Baja Challenge cars

Loved him in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. What a class act. When I read the statement written by his daughters it was clear he was humble and
truly made a difference in a lot of lives. He will be truly missed.
