Dang, that is just AWFUL.

My thoughts are with all the good people Tijuana---the violence is so very sad for all of them.

The street racers in Rosarito (popotla blvd area mostly) have been tearing it up for a while. This incident says gunfire from one racing truck into another racing truck killed three- including an off-duty fireman.

Luckily all this stuff happens way after my bedtime. And again- at least they took the tourist season off.

Sixteen dead in Tijuana drug slayings
Mon Sep 29, 2008 1:40pm EDT
TIJUANA, Mexico (Reuters) - Police found 16 bodies dumped in the seedy Mexican border city of Tijuana on Monday in what the state attorney general's office said could be a revenge attack for the arrest of a local drug gang hit man.

Twelve bodies were left in a heap with plastic bags tied over their heads within view of a primary school in the east of the city. The school was closed for the day but local residents gathered on rooftops of nearby houses to gape at the victims, who had been shot in the head.

Four other bodies were dumped, bound with tape, in front of the national attorney general's office in Tijuana -- a find typical of the drug killings plaguing Mexico as the country's powerful cartels fight the army and each other.

Warning messages left with both groups of bodies indicated the killings could be a response to the arrest at the weekend, reportedly triggered by a tip-off, of a hit man working for the Arellano Felix cartel, Tijuana's main drug gang.

"We are not ruling out that it is a reaction to the arrest of one of the most important members of the Arellano Felix cartel," a spokesman for the Baja California state attorney general's office said.

The dozen men, apparently killed in the early hours of Monday, were dumped in an abandoned lot by a wall bearing a painting of state Gov. Jose Guadalupe Osuna.

Border cities like Tijuana, south of San Diego, are key battlegrounds in a bloody war between Mexico's drug cartels and security forces that has killed around 3,000 people this year.

President Felipe Calderon has made fighting the cartels a central plank of his presidency, but violence has escalated to unprecedented levels since he took power in late 2006.

Drug gang hit men launched their first major strike on the general public this month with a grenade attack on a crowd celebrating a national holiday in Calderon's home city.

Do they know if the killed are invoved in the drug cartels? If so no big deal. L.A. county gets about 12 to 15 homicides every weekend. Oh and that does not get reported, since it is not as dramatic.

A sign was left at the scene saying this is what happens to those who work with the "engineer" (ingeniero). The engineer is ingeniero Fernando Sánchez Arellano. Most think it was done by "El Teo", Teodoro García Simental, against the Arellano family.

They never seem to run out of bodies to replace the ones killed.

Sad...

Don't use drugs! Drugs kill in many different ways.
Still not scared of going to Baja.
In fact this may cut down traffic a little more. Still a couple good fishing months left.
I must say this is another compelling reason to use my airplane for ravel in Baja.

Its starting. Wait until they start to get serious about making their point with the government and really start killing the innocents. Where is the protection for the Mexican people.

BajaJack...what is the documentation for your statement involving Central America?

And what does "take what you can, give nothing back!" mean?

If it is your personal philosophy, don't bother responding, I'll just ignore your post.

I did a little research on you on the Off Topic forum. I wasn't quick enough to revise my post to prevent the obvious answer.

I wish you good luck on what I judge will be a long long walk to enlightenment.

Sorry...:(
