taco stands question

Sorry to appear dumber than normal, but when I rode south to Los Barriles in May, I went past a metropolis that had a whole row of taco stands north of town on the east side of the highway. What town was that?
I think I narrowed it down to a few of them, but can't find it on Google Earth. And before you get on my sierra too bad, just remember, you too will get old pretty soon.
I was so happy to be getting on down the road, I didn't pay enough attention to where everything was.
It might just be an excuse to go for another ride to find the elusive taco stands. And next time, I'm taking the squeeze. She loves tacos & beers.

Could it be San Bartolo?

Just north of Los Barriles is a little town on the edge of the road called San Bartolo with a few taco stands on the left and sidewalk/cliff on the right. They are all quite fine. San Bartolo is known for fresh and dried fruits and candies.

Also you may have visited Triunfo? Its quite small with very few taco stands?

You mention a metropolis which I can only assume means La Paz where you see many many taco stands as you leave?

Here is the church of Triunfo

Somewhere in Baja California. I think it is in Baja Norte. Sorry to admit it, but this getting old is slowing me down. It was north of a fairly good sized town, on the east side of the highway, and fairly extensive, as in a whole bunch of taco stands. Like about a mile of them. I know I wasn't hallucinating all that bad. Well, maybe a little....

I think it's San Quintin/Lazaro Card##as. Some are taco stands, some sell seafood.

There are a couple of great taco stands in Maneadero, but not a whole row of them as described in the post. Going out toward La Bufadora there are LOTS of tamales stands...which reminds me - when we were traveling on the mainland and having taco cravings - there was not a taco stand to be found.

This is like looking for some mailboxes in Nevada... Narrowing it down to Baja Norte isn't a lot of help... Was it before El Rosario (that's the last Pemex on the highway for a couple hundred miles and the highway makes a sharp left turn past the station (next to Mama Espinoza's Place).

If it was BEFORE that, and after the Ensenada area, and after the curvey road section (Maneadero to Colonet)... THEN, the San Quintin/ Lazaro Card##as row of taco stands would be my bet, too!

It was on the other side of the big town next to the small town between the border and cabo. In other words it was any town with taco stands.

And an EXCELLENT restaurant called Valentines---just south of the Pemex.:yes:

Where ever those taco stands were, our number one rule for a taco stand is and for small restaurants is , are the locals eating there?

Sounds like you just need to head back down and find those stands again----take pictures, it helps.

That's great advice. A little recon and observation of the locals can go a long way in picking out the best place to eat with the freshest and best food. Also, take into account that Mexicans tend to eat lunch/comida a little later than we do here in the states. The busy time at most local places is usually from 1pm-3pm for lunch if its going to get busy.

Just some further advice on small restaurants -

Some of the smaller places may have a menu; but, often they may not have all the ingredients to make what is listed. To be safe or if they don't have what you wanted, you can ask, "Que hay?" (What is there?) for the scoop on whats available and in the kitchen.

In many places they will do what it takes regardless if they have the ingredients or not. It's not uncommon to order some food, see a child scurry out of the kitchen, disappear down the street, and later return with an armload of oranges for that OJ you just ordered.

Welcome to BajaNomad and may you find the ultimate taco.

reminds me of the time in san ignacio when we sat down at a restraunt that proclaimed, "seafood". we all order clam coctail. the waiter yelled something towards the back and about 5 minutes later a kid came scurrying in the front door with a sack full of clams. we all kinda smiled.....and the coctails were awesome.
