Penalties for failure to renew FM3 on time?

Anyone know what penalties accrue when an FM3 isn't renewed on time and what steps you have to go through to reinstate?

FM3

According to the San Felipe web site the immigration office there has stated
"There is a fine for failing to renew in a timely manner, however, if your FM3 is stamped on exit and entry, you avoid the fine."
So fine will depend on whether you signed out of Mexico before your FM3 expired. I do not know how much the fine is.

When I was late in San Felipe several years ago, it was calculated on a per day basis. But only la migra can tell you what it is now.

The penalty from our very recent experience appears to be discretionary. We were told we should be fined, but they would not do so. We were also told that if we would have been another week or so late, we would have had to start from ground zero on obtaining an FM3. We were just short of a month late in our renewal.

I paid 2,000 pesos in Ensenada once but I think half of it went to the little jerk immigration officer who has never liked me.

Our FM3 expired recently and according to Lolita in San Felipe, who handles our paperwork for us, the fine will be $106.00 u.s. if we take care of it within 30 days.

I think I paid about $120 in May. Mine expired in April. They still have not returned it yet.
That's in Ensenada.
