kinda looks similar to mine. usually the flowers wilt and the stem falls off or gets knocked off. this year the stem bulged and turned to this red fruit? anyone know if they are edible? it was picked (still firm) yesterday.

Woody - Yes they are edible

I eat them from the cactus in my yard.
Kinda tastes like kiwi, but slightly perfumey.
I usually wait until they split open. The longer you leave them on the cactus, the sweeter they are.

Slice it in half and scoop out the white stuff - eat it seeds and all.

I never finish anyth

Oh, they are stars. Thank you, Diane, for helping me see them that way.
Are these the new cactus for your garden?

Very cool closeups. And I like the modification you did too, Sharksbaja.

No, not the new ones---had this one for a while. The new one is quite strange---will take pictures later.

This isn't Don, this is Paula who can't log on tonight

Starry starry... one can only think of Vincent. How does the life of this cactus compare to that of Van Gogh?

Well, can't find the direct comparison to the life of Vincent, except it just reminded me of the lyrics, for some reason, especially,

"They would not listen, they're not listening still.
Perhaps they never will..."

One of my all time favorite albums.

Can't always explain the connections I see.

Paula here again

It was really just a rhetorical question Diane, and an excuse to post the very pretty video of a song I like too, un-Baja related as it is.

By the way, those a re very pretty pictures, especially the top one:yes:
