Mexican army troops arrive in Rosarito to bolster local forces

By Omar Millan Gonzalez
October 21, 2008

ROSARITO BEACH – Mexican army troops arrived here Tuesday morning to reinforce local security forces after five people were killed in a three-day period, including two municipal police officers...

...The army has not revealed how many troops have been deployed and what their mission will be, but at least 50 soldiers had arrived by noon Tuesday.

...Baja California Attorney General Rommel Moreno said nearly all the investigations into the recent killings were being taken over by the federal Attorney General's Office.

We were down Oct. 12-16th and saw at least 3 truck loads of solders South of Rosarito. The check-point South of the Fox Studios has been set up again. Also came across some police action at the toll road off ramp at the new Comerical supermarket - several police and federal cars, officers with black ski masks and automatic weapons and two bright red SUV's in the middle.

The army is already the police here. What else do they hope to achieve that being in the police cars in police uniforms can't?
