we have a nesting pair in mission bay near the lifeguard hq. one day my wife and i were walking and saw one of them swoop up under the canopy of the
eucalyptus tree and latch onto a branch. it then let gravity do its thing and hung there, suspended (about 1.5 seconds) until the branch broke off and
proceeded to fly over to its nest. it was really cool.

Very nice osprey pix, Diane.
Are there platforms for them to build on in your area, or do they just manage on their own atop phone poles and the like?

jdtrotter, Thanks for the pictures. Once watched an Osprey snap a dead limb off a tree in full flight, never even slowed down. And it was a good-sized
limb.

Thanks for the nice comments---we are keeping an eye on this one---they are just great birds.
We do not have the platforms here as of yet. However, our friend who works for the preserve is now working here in town and that is one of the
projects he wants tackle. I hate seeing them on the poles and near the wires.
---the wires that disappeared out of these pictures.

I don't think I have ever seen one of their nests build on rocks---very interesting.
Thanks for sharing your photo
