Dia de los Muertos
Ever since we traveled to Michoacan and specifically Patzcuaro, I have had a facination for the Day of the Dead celebration. I went to Old Town in
San Diego in hopes of getting some pictures to share. Hope it puts you in the spirit!

DDLM at Maneadero cementerio last night, saturday, was peaceful. It was my intention to hide away behind some trees and snap some photos without
flash, but, decided against it.
Got there at dusk and enjoyed seeing all of the children and families honoring past memories of loved ones. Lots of flowers, candles and other
accoutrements were beautiful.
This was my first visit to a mexican cemetery for DDLM and would recommend the experience to anyone. Apparently it's a two day festival and I'll hope
to visit later at night next year.

Oh thank you Ken for the Dia de los Muertos collection.... soooo colorful.
I love that little bride and groom. Have a collection of those skeleton folks myself.
Tell me about that first picture... is it a mural or carvings or

We, along with some Nomad friends visited the cemetery in Maneadero today. LOTS of people (it being a Sunday probably helped that), police directing
traffic (this out in the middle of nowhere on a dirt road!, but NEEDED), many vendors with flowers, water, churros, tortas, you name it -- at least 4
roaming mariachi bands...bajamigo has pix....to follow!
After our outing, everyone came to our house for pozole. YUM! Oh, and beer....and wine and martinis.
Friends don't let friends drink white zinfandel.

I think it was our third year of living in the Ensenada area that our friend, Fidel, who is originally from Oaxaca, invited us to his home to
celebrate Dia de los Muertos. He had his altar constructed and insisted that we sit down (in the only two chairs they had in their modest home) and
share a meal with them. We took pictures of him with the altar and he was thrilled when we gave him copies. He said in all the years of celebration
he had never had a picture of his handiwork. We were impressed with his dedication and the depth of his conviction of the importance of this holiday
in his culture. He told us it was the most important holiday in his part of Mexico, far outweighing Christmas. I miss seeing the flower stands and
all the festivities of this fascinating two days - and I especially miss the pozole!!

It was our first adventure going to the Cemetery for this holiday, it was very interesting, to see the love being bestowed to their family members.
Thanks to our friends Bajamigo and Bajabound for including us on this trip and then the pozole at their home was great along with Martini's.

Glad you enjoyed the pictures. In the first picture the figures are life sized wood carvings. Very detailed work. The scene in the background is
painted.
