Phony (and toxic) Barbies

Watching the Cable news today, there was a segment on the latest merchandise being smuggled across the border from Mexico.

Chin* Toys.

Either containing Toxic materials which make them illegal in the U.S. or they're counterfeit knockoffs imported into Mexico and then hidden in the many trucks coming into the U.S with the products showing up mostly in "mom-and-pop" stores, but also in some discounters.

Those Chi*oms are resourceful.

The list of toxic items originating from China is getting longer. eggs, toothpaste, dog food, children's toys....etc. What's going here? Did they purchase toxic materials in bulk when the U.S. decided to stop using them, or are they being manufactured in China and shipped off the to rest of us? They aren't ignorant people, what's the story here?

I will ignore the racism but would like to comment on the thrust of your post.

This is what you get with Free Boot Capitalism. Are you surprised that unregulated capitalists would poison people? Have you looked at the strock market lately? This is what happens when products are unregulated.

The Chinese have a very long history of Capitalism that lasted for a very long time before the revolution. Most of the people lived in abject poverty while the wealth accrued to a few until finally the people revolted. The Chinese instituted Communism and since the time of Nixon have been slowly opening to Capitalism again. Unregulated production by these free boot Capitalists is the source of these tainted products.

The inherant flaw of Capitalism is that wealth accrues to the few while the inherant flaw of Communism is that creativity is stiffled. We have just gone thu an orgy of deregulatied Free Boot Capitalism and we are feeling the results as markets around the world crumble.

Mexico as well as the USofA will do well to pay attention to this issue, the need to balance regulation and free market forces. The Chinese have underwritten the excesses of the USofA for many years now and are in many ways the hand that feeds us. The rise of China can be directly traced to the outsourcing of manufacturing in the USofA and is in part the result of the short sightedness of the USofA Corporate Elite who in the name of quarterly profit exported the means of production and became a consumer society. There are lessons here for the USofA as it's role in the world changes from superpower to one amoung equals. We are all in for that ride.

Of course there are millions of us that have done very well under your "free boot" capitolism, but you seem to ignor that, or fail to mention it.

All you have to do is participate, and the rewards flow to you, long term.. It is NOT only the wealthy that get richer-----it is, as usual, all about "choice".

I agree, Dennis. And it looks like we (??) are going to let them get away with it. The Govt. in it's infinite wisdom------(???) are working on upsetting the whole apple cart for years to come. I say bankruptcy--------------

My heritage is German-Swedish-Norwegian-Russian. If you are familiar with the regions you will know that they have a wide range of ethnic "nicks" to go around about each other. Story goes that when my maternal grandparents married (swede and norwegian) there was a brawl at the wedding over some "loose" usage of the "nicks" being used in the wedding toasts. Knowing my grandfather he probably threw the first punch.

Perhaps I am just getting old but I find myself paying more attention to what people do than what they say. Sometimes it is more important to pay close attention to what they DON'T say.

But what do I know...

for us simpletons ... sycophant means

a person who, acting in his own self interest,
attempts to win favor by flattering one or more influential persons,
with an undertone that these actions are executed at the cost of his or her own personal pride, principles, and peer respect.
