Our new front door
Hi all,
Since our house is kind of mission style adobe, we wanted an old fashioned door with a little speak easy window and some iron work. We saw one during
the summer at Home Depot in Ensenada but we waited too long to buy it and they discontined the line (it was $600). So we finally found a place to
custom make us one, Sterling gallery near the Tourist row put together this design for just under $1400, not bad considering Fausto Polanco was asking
like $3000 for a similar design. Since it was our main entrance we figured the extra expense would be worth it. Still have to put some clavos in the
corners as a decorative accent. Sterling was super to work with and damn nice people to boot!

Good looking puerta. Looks like you need a threshhold to keep out the weather and critters.

Interesting you should mention that........I had a difficult time getting a threshold installed in my place.

Spectacular. I once trod the streets of Queretaro just to see the wonderful doors. Very nice example.

Took me a long time to convince them of what I wanted, then after they installed it, they trimmed the door.....still left a gap. Had to get the door
guy down to the floor so he could see the gap.
From what I have seen, thresholds are not a big item on the construction list in Baja.

Beautiful! congratulations! Its terrific.
You mention mission adobe, is the home built of adobe bricks? How did you find them or make them, what size are they? Are there different sizes? How
do you wire the home with adobe? Looks great!

Thanks! We're super happy with the way it turned out. Still have to figure out some kind of seal against the cold for the speak easy door, and after
the tiles go in a treshold and doorsweep.
Gnukid: yep its all adobe blocks (made here on site with clay, sand, straw and water) The blocks are 10X14X4 inches.
On the outside is a layer of lime/sand morter with natural pigment.
Wiring or the house is run in the roof and along channels cut in the adobe blocks before the last inside layer of adobe morter goes on. heres some
pics as of yesterday.

Maybe add one of those rubber "Sweeps" to the inside of the door. That should solve the problem.
