Roadrunners

Mulegemichael and I were poking around out past Ray's, just out for a drive, and we saw not one, but TWO Roadrunners. Wow. I managed to snag one shot before they disappeared

Nice shot, Beachgirl. I see so many of those little guys racing at lightening speed across the roads between La Paz and the East Cape, but never am I quick enough to get a photo.
You done good - real good.;D

Love those little guys! It is a sad reminder to me however, what development has done to wildlife habitat. Back in the 70's, I lived in Saugus, CA, which would later become part of Santa Clarita. Our house backed up on open space. Those little guys used to cruise through our yard all the time. Who can't feel at least a little grin building when you see one skittering by?

My 'ol dog "Wile E. Rocky" made it hard to get a still shot of a Roadrunner...Beep beep.

Nice photo, beachgirl. Just a little small on my screen!

I suppose the reason they are getting rarer here is the widening of the roads - the 4+ some lane highway to La Paz is quite an obstacle, no matter how fast they run.

Bill Erhardt,
There must be a bigger story attached to this photo!! How'd you get that "pecker" out of your casa?

I miss California and Baja out here on the prairie so imagine my surprise when I saw a Roadrunner cruising by a while back--had no idea they were native this far east--cool, a little taste of home!

docsmom.......There are windows all around the palapa, about 130 of them. Some were open at the time and he went out as he came in, or out another open window. He was around for two or three weeks until more part-time neighbors showed up on the scene.

Bajahowodd........I don't think so. He/she was a well-mannered guest. Here he/she is strutting on a perimeter wall. When my neighbors on the other side of the wall showed up, the RR moved on to more tranquil hunting grounds.

When I was growing up in Ojai the natives there, Chumash Indians ,said that if a roadrunner crossed directly in front of you it was bad luck, but if crossed on a diagonal that was ok.
