Back in 'the day' my grandpa used to 'hole' for catfish. He'd keep the boat along the edges of the shoreline, looking for likely spots that the fish had dug into the mud banks. He wore this heavy leather glove and arm protector - and when he found a likely spot, he'd shove his hand into the hole.

The fish would open his/her mouth to 'take' my grandpa's hand, then gramps would make a fist and pull real hard. Next thing ya know we'd have a big catfish flopping in the bottom of the boat. Plenty of food for dinner that night.

This technique is called "Noodling" by the locals. It's a very popular way to catfish down in the southern US of A but they have to beware of poisonous snakes that can hide out in the same holes! - Cajun blackened catfish. Yummmmm!!!
