Todos Santos Reports / Jammin' For The Animals / Update

Greetings from Todos Santos :

It has been many months since my last report. The tropical summer turned me into a lifeless slug. This has led to my decision to move back stateside in early May. I have been researching different locations and have pretty much settled on Las Vegas for affordability and opportunities for work in the huge entertainment industry. I am simply not ready to "kick-back" at this time. I actually enjoy my work !

This puebla has finally hit full stride after suffering a beating with the longest and most humid summer that anyone can remember. Most of the gringos have arrived and many gallery openings and things like the Tuesday Eco-Cafe series are in full swing. Restaurants that had gone dormant in the summer either have reopened with higher prices or just faded away.

Jammin' For The Animals

Yesterday (Sunday) was a great musical event .... "Jammin for the Animals" , a fundraiser for Pet spay clinics, was held at the La Canada Del Diablo in Todos Santos.

About four days ago I volunteered to mix audio for the show, largely because I couldn't afford a ticket. And most of the day went well in spite of the primitive equipment available and incredible lack of professionalism exhibited by many of the performers, we managed to make good sound for the show.

There were around eight acts , four of which were tone deaf wannabees, and a couple of seasoned performers such as Greg Kitchel and Dave De La Valle (who saved the day by donating a couple of main speakers) with Jessie Hamilton.

The most powerful performance was turned in by Alex DePue & Miguel De Hoyos ... below are some pics of Alex (violin) and Miguel (guitar) . These guys have it all from incredible musical performances to great expression and movement. I am sure they have a great career ahead of them. They have two CD's out also.

All in all a most rewarding day .

BTW: This is a wonderful time of year to visit Todos Santos.
The weather is perfect and the light has a magical quality.

The attendance , while full at it's peak, was not the jammed to the rafters crowed that I had expected.

I am sure the Baja Western Onion will post a full report on the event and the financial report.

It was a good day.

We sold 211 tickets so it was a huge success!!!!

Final tally not in but it certainly will take care of the "animal business" for awhile:yes::yes:

There are 4 pages of photos of the event (acts and people enjoying themselves in their own ways) starting here:

This was posted on the most recent Onion.

Jammin' For The Animals Benefit Concert Report - We are delighted to announce that this event raised over 40,000 pesos, thanks in great part to the generosity of Barbara Perkins who donated the ENTIRE profit from beverage sales. These funds will be used to continue the ongoing spay and neuter program and provide food for homeless dogs.

Please join us in thanking all the wonderful musicians that donated 100% of their time and talent to make our Jammin' Benefit such a success. And don't miss Alex DePue and Miguel De Hoyos in concert next Sunday, February 8 at 3 PM at La Caņada Del Diablo. - Maryann Douglas, maryann@bajawesternonion.com
