"8 kidnap victims are freed at ranch east of Tijuana"

Someone did a "run forrest run" to the cuota toll booth! Good for that kid. How many victims (including two children like these) are being held and possibly abused?

"Eight kidnap victims being held in a rural area east of the city were rescued by members of the Mexican military, Mexico's National Defense Secretariat announced yesterday. One of the suspected kidnappers was killed in the raid.

According to a release from the 2nd Military Zone, based in Tijuana, the victims included a female and two male minors. No ages were released.

The exact timing of the rescue was unclear.

The news release said the military was alerted after one victim escaped and reported the abductions after reaching the Tijuana booth of the Tijuana-Tecate toll road.

Soldiers were met with gunfire as they arrived at Rancho Ackerman, near the kilometer 142 marker of the toll road, according to the release.

Weapons found at the scene included a rifle and a pistol.

Under President Felipe Calder6n, Mexico's military has taken on an increasingly active role in fighting crimi- nal gangs dedicated to drug trafficking, kidnapping and other crimes."
