Wildlife viewing in BOLA?
Hello Nomads, thanks for your help with my other posts. I'm back for more advice, if you've got it:
Are whale sharks around BOLA during mid-March? To be specific, we would probably arrive in town late AM/early afternoon on the 20th and leave around
the same time the next day.
Would it be worth hiring a guide for a few hours to look for them out in the bay, or would we probably not see anything? What about other wildlife
(whales, sea lions, turtles)?
Would the water be too cold for snorkeling? We will not have our own gear.
Any recommendations for particular guides/companies?
Many thanks in advance!!

The Bay of Los Angeles is next to deep water and doesn't warm up until almost summer. The whale shark expert is Abraham (Doc) of Camp Gecko.
Usually see whale shark action on our July trips...

March is a little early for whale sharks in Bahia. Doc Vazquez, the owner of Camp Gecko and an authority on the sharks, told us that they start
arriving in June. In my experience, October is the best month but they should be there from June through November. You might be interested in a log
of one of our whale shark trips to BOLA:

We have been out with Doc (don't know if he does it any more) and we had a great experience with Joel Prieto joel_prieto@hotmail.com.

I have seen whales, turtles, sea lions and other wildlife in the BOLA area. You have to put the time in on the water though... but you might get
lucky go for the guide or however you can get on a boat.

We go to Bay of LA mainly for the scenery and the fishing Although there is plenty of wild life there ,summer or fall would be better for that.
We stop there on our way home from San Ignacio because its easyer to go there and get a room then to keep on driving to El Rosario in the dark. I
know there are places to stay in or near Catavina but Bay of LA is so damb beautiful in the morning.
If we are only comming from Guerrero Negro we drive straight through to San Quintin. Spend the night there.

Bay of LA is a beautiful location spring, summer, fall or winter. Lots of fish, birds (roadrunners, hummingbird, gulls, frigates, and osprey).
Whalesharks are fantastic and the finback whales amazing, dolphins plentiful. Oh gosh almost forgot the rays and squids. And the colors of the
islands and the water will move you to tears, they do me anyway....wish I was there, I feel a trip coming on soon!
