Good news for Todos Santos !

Cable is comming to Todos Santos !

Crews have been hanging thousands of feet of wire (hopefully fiber) all over Todos Santos.

We are going to have cable TV with 300 channels and true hi speed internet... not that dopey 3mg download we get from DSL ....

Almost makes me wish I were not moving back to the states.

Don't think it is fiber - the left over pieces have a cross section that looks like wire with a lot of insulation. And the tools they use don't look that sophisticated. But then, quien sabe?

I love the "beauty" of the huge satellite dishes they have installed (to drive the network) on the top of the new building coming into town, right in the rigorously controlled "historic district". Come to think of it, maybe that's why it's old-fashioned cable!

It's not the heat , it's the humidity.

I am not a humidity person either. Spent many years living in South America and some time in Indonesia. I remember always taking showers in the summer with luke warm water and gradually turning off the hot until I was taking just a cold shower.

It was the only way I could completely dry off.

Fiber optic will be either orange or yellow exterior coating.

Tools do not look alot different that cable tools.

Both can handle high speed TV and Internet. Main difference is that cable can only do it in short haul situations (500 meters or so) without needing a repeater station. This is the most cost effective way to do it. Fiber does require more maintenace and skill to install.

If it requires skill and maintenance then it is better they do not put in fiber .... although the advantages are numerous ... and copper does not have the capacity of fiber.

If it's anything like the cable over here in Sonora, the English options will be limited. That's why the vast majority of gringos and Canucks use satellite.
