Sportfisher burns off Punta Chileno

Yesterday, around noon a sportfisher caught fire and burned to the water line about a mile out from Punta Chileno between San Lucas and San Jose. It appeared to be between 20 and 40 feet but it was hard to tell since it was completely engulfed in thick black smoke. The word around town is that there were no fatalities.

Yesterday evening the remains were still afloat as they drifted toward shore. A couple of pangas had ropes tied to it and were attempting to tow it someplace. I am surprised it didn't sink because there is less than a foot of the hull remaining above water.

smoke on the water....

Yeah, I caught a glimpse of that on the news last night. I recall them saying the boat was traveling from La Paz to Cabo when it caught fire. So I assume it wasn't a day charter? Man, if there were fishing clients on board they would have been a bit freaked out to say the least!
