We've got DirectTV and PPV coverage in the US, and luckily I have a friendly sports bar that will be doing breakfast openings during Euro2004. Bloody
Marys and an England win over France Sunday. Sweet !
Hope your find some friendly fans to tune in with BritGirl

From Bret Lewis of KFWB: "A survey in the Netherlands shows one in three Dutch men think watching their national team on television at the Euro2004
Games in Portugal is more important than celebrating their wife's birthday. Can you imagine that kind of sensitivity? I mean, for a Laker game, sure.
But soccer?"

American football > Soccer?? > Real football.
Well, I see it this way: The Americans call something football and play it with the hands. The ball is neither a ball but more like an egg.
And as they got no rules other than: anybody has to hit everybody.
If eveybody is hit, jump on each other and pile up!
They call it football because you only can see the foots(feet)of the players piled up.
Soccer? What please is soccer?
Nobody in the world is calling real football >soccer, but the Americans.
But now, Englsih lady, after the French beat the English 2:1 in Portugal, are you mad?
Still want to look football?
Yea, a real fan never gives up hoping on revenge, right?
And that's o.k..
Have fun with what the world calls and let the Americans have their fun with playing with an egg >carried to the other end of the field by
hand while the rest of the players are knocking out each other.
Have fun folks!

England lost to France 2-1
Italy tied Denmark 0-0
Sweden trashed Bulgaria 4-0
And why argue about american "football", we all know that soccer is the king of sports.

"we all know that soccer is the king of sports. "
Just behind hockey. No, really.
I like the drama in soccer. Especially when one guy gets a tiny scratch and has to be carted off the field on a stretcher
. All in jest.
Don't forget the best, though, the sport of kings, SURFING!:

ouch! a tough loss to the French,
Britishgirl. A miss by Beckham, and two surprises by France after the 90 minute mark. They almost had it won. Canadians call the game "soccer" as
well, Germanicus, we play it after the baseball season, before the outdoor rinks freeze for ice hockey, and just before basketball. I never liked
wearing those shorts out there in the freezing wind as a schoolboy. But I played goal and did have on a pair of gloves.

hey daveb,
don't take it too serious.
I'm not a football fan.
I mean that football the world is calling football.
I just like to play games with people who are taking -whatever it is - too serious.
So, as I'm a rece-fan I'm kidding with those who like Nascar.
Nascar is not racing at all.
It is 'noodlepot-driving'.
Must come from England > only to the left!
Who wants to step into a discusssion about that?
Well we gotto go elsewhere, >> Misc. maybe., as it has nothing to do with Baja Q&A.
Have a nice day, folks

Soccer is an active persuit which has elements of table tennis and labor while American football is more strategic like chess and war. I've also heard
that American football has capitalist characteristics with its measured gains. Soccer seems to be a more participatory sport where even middle aged
people practice regularly while American football has an excusive quality where only a small handful of jr. high, high school, and college players
actually take to the field. My opinion is that American football is a more manly, rough and tumble game where all wimps must step aside while soccer
is a game where our daughters can develop self esteem. It will probably take several generations before we have a U.S. president who was a soccer hero
in his or her youth.

As with stagnant pace of soccer, the lack of suspense in soccer also appeals to the dimwitted. The goal in many sports is simple - cross a goal line
or base, put something in a basket or net. With sports, there is a progression when such a goal is achieved as two opposing forces compete -
paralleling in some ways the drama of a story. In football, a drive progresses down the field, until one side is victorious in battle and either stops
the drive or completes it with a score - the suspense usually builds as the drive progresses down the field. In basketball, the drama builds as the
team penetrates and kicks out. In hockey, the drama builds as a defense can't recover from a mistake in their own zone. In baseball, the suspense
builds with every new runner on base. In soccer, what suspense is there? None, because scoring chances are infinitesimal. Every pitch in baseball
offers a chance at a run, but the probabilities of a hit happens over a quarter of the time - so one cannot safely discount this. In football, every
play offers the possibility of scoring. And while a small number of plays are scoring plays, they contribute to scoring drives. And the probability of
this happening is probably around 40%. In hockey and basketball, every shot offers a scoring chance. In basketball, the probability is above 40%,
while in hockey it is just under 10%. And while hockey's probabilities are lower, the speed of the game lends itself to the suspense of whether a
scoring attempt will be successful. Soccer offers boredom. The probabilities of scoring in soccer on any given kick are remote, which perhaps explains
the feigned apoplexy involved with that annoying broadcaster screams "goal." What are the probabilities of a soccer participant scoring on any given
possession? They are remote enough where you can safely discount it. Why else do we see so many 0-0 ties?
