Oh good. More geniuses at work. This is like looking for illegals in the trunk of your car. Can't they just imagine that guns might be shipped
between ports of entry? Why don't they go out there and be effective? How often do they have to make a joke of this?

I think US style southbound point-of-entry inspections and checkpoints would be effective. The hit-or-miss red light Mexican system isn't credible.
I think you'd be surprised how many cars crossing south have bundles of cash in them, let alone personal firearms.
They already take your license plate photo southbound and match it against when that plate crosses back. Last time- they addressed us by name at the
border before looking at our passports.

So explain to me why the US has to check cars going into Mexico....shouldn't that be their job?! The last time I checked, the Mexican gov't was
helping/assisting Mexican nationals with maps of safe passage routes into the US. Seems like they (Mexico) gets to have their cake and eat it, too.

More "Show we're doing something" BS
While I haven't read the article referenced, the other coverage I've seen on this idiocy points out that the Big-Time smugglers post a lookout at the
border with a Cellphone. When the U.S. goes into inspection mode, they call the smuggler and let him/her know in advance NOT to cross.
The only pros they'll catch will be those who get caught in line when the inspection begins.
Since the Cartels are already buying weapons offshore that can't be supplied more easily in the U.S., they'll simply expand their buying if the U.S.
arms become difficult to import.
It will be a pain-in-the-Ass for the rest of us, though. The few Southbound routines I've seen in previous years really slowed the crossing at
Mexicali East.

American Arms
As I mentioned elsewhere, it turns out that the NINETY PERCENT figure regarding U.S. arms turns out to be Politico BS.
Eighty-percent of arms seized in Mexico CANNOT be traced at all.
The Ninety-percent applies to the remaining Twenty-percent.

If we find the undeclared bundles of cash on our side of the border... it's OUR cake to eat. Seems like the monitoring equipment is aready there for
checking northbound border traffic- so why not make some cash? If Arnold is smart- he will set up a state checkpoint before the federal one and do
some cherry picking.

San Diego has the highest stolen car rate in the US - maybe will find some trying to cross the border. Will be interesting to see if they find
anything. Can't fault them for trying to do something about stemming the flow of contraband - and using US personnel since it's obvious the Mexican
patrol is not checking. Seems like this should have started years ago - along with increased entry lanes, doubled up. If it's so easy to get
something across in a car, don't you think this is what they've been doing?

How Dey Do Dat ?
While all of the conjecture regarding arms smuggling is entertaining, the FACT is that they don't really know how it's being done.
I "suppose", should they catch a few, we'll get some insight into the schemes being employed.
Having been searched so many times under so many different conditions and had the authorities find things I thought were well-concealed, I am
skeptical that smugglers might simply load up the trunks of their cars and drive arms across.
Granted, those have been the Mexican authorities I've dealt with, so "maybe" the U.S. Authorities will have a better plan, but I doubt it.
