Satellite Radio, will it work? how far?
Satellite Radio, will it work? how fardown?
I have a add on in my truck, is it worth taking to the East Cape?

We use Sirrus Radio and receive it all the way to Bahia De Los Angeles, and mount the antenna at the house and receive it there on the beach as well.
So you should have good lick with it almost anywhere you have clear sky. Connie

We used Sirrius all the way down to Cabo and on the mainland, all the way to Patzcuaro and more.
We have only found a few dead spots---big trees by Los Pinos and on the mesa by the El Rosario Army stop where we are sure the signal is stolen by
aliens from outerspace. 
And we use it with a separate dock at our home in Bahia Asuncion

Thanks all for the quick reply's--I have Sirrius radio. I know they have to have a big dish for Dishnetwork down on the East Cape--just was not sure
about the radio.

works all the way up and down the Baja penninsula. In addition to the car cradle in my truck, I have a Serius Boombox for my casita in Mulege. It
comes with it's own antenna. You just take out the receiver (slips right out) and transfer it back in forth from the vehicle to you house. You have
to find the best spot for the antenna outside your home. It is about the size of the palm of your hand with a wire attached and you can move it
arround.
Well worth it! Music of all genres are commercial free. You do get commercials with talk radio, but the variety is vast; Left, right, audio for CNN,
FOX TV, NPR radio and all kinds of entertainment channels including Howard Stern, comedy, radio classics, etc. No need for TV.
Attention Serius: Just send the check in pesos to Mulege.

Just one thing about Sirius radio, if you want to cancel your subscription you cannot do it on line like you can get authorization. You have to call
them direct and put up with a lot of whining and just insist on unsubscribing.

A tad belated, but relevent, news about satellite radio.
Effective March 11, 2009, the XM Radio Online listening platform was upgraded to a higher quality digital audio. Also thier rates rose by $2 per
radio..unless, like me, you took advantage of thier offer to re-sign for a longer-term plan by the March deadline. I saved about $90 per year with
this agreement with my two XM/Sirius radios.
Currently listening to XM's channel 28 'Escape' and loving the tunes...mellowing out in beautiful downtown Coyote Bay. 
I do what the voices in my tackle box tell me.

I took my MX on a Baja cruise
placed the antenna on the railing of the cabin's balcony, ran it though the sliding door and it worked to Cabo, Mazatlan and Puerto Vallarta and back
so long as I could point the antenna towards the south
No se apure y dure.

Listening to my serious radio ( runner)right now. It is wonderful to have good
music anywhere but I seem to appreciate it more here. It is a must for the drive for sure

XM Radio - house model versatility
Besides the in-dash Roadie XM unit I use in my truck, I use this XM house model radio called a Delphi SkyFi. As you can see it's not too huge, and
has excellent sound quality. Almost like a Bose, I use it at the house in Coyote and take it Up North in the summer/fall.
I also take it along in the motor home. Rather than run the generator needlessly, I use a cig lighter adaptor to get the 110 required while camping
and traveling. All that is needed is have a general southern exposure for the small antenna. Has a 15 ft antenna cord, so finding a spot in the rig
is never a problem. I have a place for the radio on the large coach dash. Have had very relaxing road trips thanks to this unit.
Also use it in the boat with same cig lighter plug-in adaptor. Works fine out on the Sea of Cortez and at Reindeer Lake, Saskatchewan. It's great to
get good quality music and such variety, plus keep current with the news, weather, and sports. Tons of entertainment and vital information here for a
few bucks each month.
A good addition to any situation. I believe XM and Sirius have been merged for some time, now..am I correct?

actually, US sat broadcast providers directionally beam signal to only to major north america markets. signal fades by time you reach southern mexico
or north Can and AK, and is not receivable in most of central america.
maybe broadcast coverage will be expanded when they figure out how to capture central america market.
so far, sat radio biz is a bust, not profitable, will be lucky if existing providers last thru the depression without going BK, discharging debt and
selling to new owners.

Okay let me rephrase that. My XM worked all the way down to Bahia Asuncion, Gonzaga Bay, and BOLA. This was in March.
