Road Report April 8, Tijuana to Loreto AND April 16, Loreto to Tijuana
Hi,
Been hoping to get my road report out sooner, but issues delayed that. On April 8, we drove from Tijuana to Loreto spending the night in Guerrero
Negro. On April 16, we made the drive back to Tijuana.
April 8, Tijuana to Loreto
We got to Tijuana in the morning and it took about 15 minutes to get the immigration doc’s. Getting from the boarder to HWY1 was easy. HWY1 (toll
road) to Rosarito had some road works and the military were at the toll booths checking vehicle going northbound. Checkpoint #1, (just south of
Ensenada) we were waived through, north of San Quintin was some road constructions. Checkpoint #2, (30 miles south of San Quintin we were waived
through, the road s/o the checkpoint was freshly paved and wide. Checkpoint #3, (40 north of Guerrero Negro) waived through, road just before and
after the checkpoint was rough and bad. We spent the night in Guerrero Negro at the Cowboy Inn which is just before you really get into town. It’s
nice, clean and 480 peso’s. While driving, we had nice stream of cars and only saw one federal police on the road, not too sure if this a good or bad
thing.
We left Guerrero Negro and at checkpoint #4, the San Ignacio area, we were waived through, they had a table setup with laptops and digital camera, but
were not using them. Checkpoint #5, north of Loreto, we were asked where we were from and where we are going. They did a quick looked inside the car,
then we were on our way to Loreto.
April 16, Loreto to Tijuana
We left Loreto in the morning, at checkpoint #5, ask where we were from, where we have been and where we are going. They open all the doors of the car
and did a quick looked inside the car. Took passports and wrote the info on their form, about 5 minutes. At checkpoint #4, the San Ignacio area,
quick looked inside the car, fast about 3 minutes. At checkpoint #3, (40 north of Guerrero Negro), they looked through the car, took about 5 minutes.
El Rosario, road works on HWY 1through town, delays, only one lane for both directions. A quick inspection at checkpoint #2, 30 miles s/o San Quintin.
At checkpoint #1, south of Ensenada, the army used a black handheld device with a telescoping antenna to inspect the car. They walked around the car
pointing the antenna towards the edge on the car and the ground. Once they finished walking around the car, they waived us through.
North on Hwy 1 toll road was uneventful, although right after the tollbooth, the military was checking each vehicle going n/b. We were asked the same
where questions and then sent on our way. They seemed to be focusing more on locals than anyone else. Crossing the boarder took about 70 minutes,
swipe of the passports and then back in the U.S.
Overall a great trip, no problems and will be making the drive again this summer. I’ve had more issues in Los Angeles, then on any of our trips
south. I hope this info is useful,

Darrell. Nice report. What did you do while in Loreto? where did you eat? Any comments about weather & did you fish & if so, how was
it??????
