Boo Hoo

The government has denounced what it considers "acts of discrimination against the human rights" of Mexicans.

Stigma

Whether or not there are medical reasons to justify the global reaction to Mexican travellers, here in Mexico City it is seen as exaggerated and "xenophobic".

Mexicans feel that their image abroad has suffered a terrible blow.

"Our jobs have vanished," a taxi driver who works at Mexico City Airport told BBC Mundo.

Francisco Abundis, the director of Parametria, a consulting firm, believes that the image of the average Mexican citizen is being more affected than that of the country.

"The problem is that the animal associated to this epidemic is not really nice. The term 'swine flu' has a connotation that could activate prejudices about Mexican's hygiene," he says.

We should call it Mexican flu :lol:

i was refering (primarily, the list is long) to the fact that it's the US's apparent fault for the drug violence, for the world economic problems, for all of the weapons flowing south, for the cruise ships not docking, for the wind blowing the wrong direction.........

i guess i can admit speaking in generalities.....xenophobicly (sp?):lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

Let's not blame the country that is the single greatest consumer of illict drugs. Let's blame Mexico. Would there be a supply, if there was no demand? Fact is that the Mexicans, with their shared border are just being enterprising. If, for some reason, the government of Mexico were to totally eradicate the drug traffickers, people from elsewhere would take over.

Reading the SD Union-Tribune ayer, there was a letter from the Mexican Consul-General in San Diego crying over a previous SD Editorial page Cartoon (which I didn't see) that had "Insulted" their National Symbol (the Chihuahua ?) and their Flag.

BOO HOO.

Did anybody see the offensive cartoon ?

Good thing they aren't Moslem.

I really didn't think that Doug started this forum with the idea of hosting people who constantly rag on Mexico. Mexico is what it is. Flawed. Anyone truly think that the United States is not flawed? Interestingly, over centuries, there have been a number of times when Mexico and the United States might have actually become one country. Obviously never happened. Given the social cultural differences, we must adopt a sibling mindset. Mexico and the US have the opportunity to forge a relationship that will benefit each nation.

I thought at one time we were creating a GREAT relationship with the Maquiladoras, but they ended up wanting better wages than the Vietnamese.
