Snake Launch video

While we're on a snake theme...

A few years ago this snake was exploring in to our old yard in BCS and slithered up the stairs to the garage roof deck. He paused, took in the view, and then launched himself off the roof to the ground 15ft below.

We expected to find mush when we ran down to where he landed, but got there in time to watch him scoot away in to some landscape rocks. The last shot shows the height of his jump.

Is this normal snake behavior ? It would be a good way to take a short cut when you come to a dead end on a mesa.

Black racer - they are quite acrobatic and obviously fast - I had one come right up and drink from my garden hose as I was watering palms - "stood up" 3 feet off the ground and drank his fill!!

Thanks for the ID Marv. My husb thought it was a black racer but we couldn't find any photos to confirm.

Yours drank from the hose while you held it!!! whoohoo. Now there's a wildlife moment.
