Some one broken into at baja Cactus motel? This thread has gone to the dogs. Or my review is better than your review? Or Nomads Rule? Or how to steal a thread? Or time to move on!!!!
Ran across this review of the Baja Cactus motel from last month. We have always worried about that side yard.

You go to that web site and find all high reviews except for this one... and he even gave the room high marks. You know Antonio will do whatever it
takes to have happy clients!
I added my review, just to keep the positive reports flowing. Nobody works harder on having a good, honest business than Antonio... Leaving suitcases
in an open truck bed, in a dirt lot next to the motel was probably not a wise idea, anywhere. No excuse for the crime... but play it safe anywhere you
go, take your luggage into your room or lock it inside the cab.

No need to defend him David. You can add what ever. But if there has been a problem, then everyone should hear about it. Even if it is a one time
deal.
I usually stop there with my flat bed trailer. maybe you would suggest I take my quad up to the room?

I 2 just followed up with a positive review. That place rocks! I parked back there and it is very dark but I made sure I had everything locked up
just like I do anywhere I travel in the USA.

I stayed there again last week. As always, the accomodations are the best in Baja. I am extremely grateful that they accept my dog. Everyone gets to
know Paco. He is very friendly and completely under my control.
I unhitched my boat and left it in the parking lot in back. There were things in the boat, but nobody messed with them. They did close the gate about
11 pm.
The only complaint I have: There were vehicles with no mufflers coming in and out of the parking lot in front of the hotel.(This noise was separate
from the Pemex noise). There were loud conversations in Spanish, and car doors slamming. I don't think they were all staying in the hotel. I am not
certain, but I think they were friends, relatives, visitors of the night clerk. I went to sleep about 11:30, after walking my dog, but because of all
the noise I didn't sleep well. I just chalked it up to "Mexico". It is almost impossible to avoid late night noise anywhere.

Security...
Hello my friends,
I am quite surprised about this review... this is the first news I have had about this incident.
Here is the response I just posted on the TripAdvisor site:
Quote: |
Hi,
I am the owner of the Motel and I am quite surprised for your review... today is May 17th, 2009 and this is the first time I have ever heard of your
experience.
At BajaCactus Motel, we do our best effort to make our guests stay as secure and comfortable as possible. Also, our staff has 24 hrs communication
with our managers and myself, all year round. Besides our usual radio and cellular phone numbers, they also have my personal phone lines for any
emergencies.
We take our guests security and well being very seriously, we have security video surveillance cameras all around, 24 hrs staff, and a gated parking
lot... we even have an insurance policy for our guests to cover for any possibly damage to any of our guests property while staying at BajaCactus (we
never had to use it though).
I wished you had really contacted me so we could have taken care of this immediately and therefore helped you out.
We are very sorry for your bad experience while staying with us... rest assure I will investigate this further and if we find there is a hole in our
security measures, we will do our best effort to correct them for the safety of our future guests.

It is worth mentioning that we have been actively working at BajaCactus, in the background, in a lot of little details that were put on hold
"temporarily" and have stayed like that for a while now... one thing I have learned... never, ever let them pile that much, afterward it seems
impossible to catch up.
One of those "little things" is further enhancing that parking lot security with:
1.- Better lighting.
2.- "Spike deterrents" on top of the back wall.
3.- Motion detection systems and alarms in the back wall.
4.- A couple more video security cameras.
5.- Automation of the main gate with a "Guest's card activation system".
I have already bought numbers 1 through 4, these items have been waiting in our Tijuana warehouse for a couple of weeks, so I can take them down to El
Rosario and install.
Number 5 is a work in progress...
If indeed this happened, no one would have been more interested than me to know... this way I could have investigated how and try to correct any
problems in our part. Also we could have activated our policy and asked the insurance company to cover our guest for their lost.
Again, we feel very sorry about the experience these guests had, and even though no Motel can be fully responsible for items left out on the open, I
really wish I had been contacted to, at least, offer my apologies.
A big hug to all of you and thank you so much for your support and friendship throughout all these years.

Antonio-
Can you provide an update on your credit card procedures? It seems as if it changes constantly. On our last stay in March, we were told that you now
only accept AMEX.
Hope all is well my friend-
Zac

Thank you Antonio. I have stayed at your motel at least 6 times over the last year. Always with a trailer in the back lot. While I did worry a
little about the back wall it was not enough to deter me from staying there. My intention in posting someone else's review was to let everyone know,
including you, that there was at least one person who said they had a problem. Some took exception to this. I am glad you did not and took
immediate Positive action.

I have stayed at Baja Cactus several times over the years and have been comfortable there. However, I prefer to stay in a hotel room that does not
accept dogs. Because of your policy to accept dogs I no longer use your hotel.
Antonio, tengo pregunta. Is it possible to reserve some rooms, not all just some, that are dog free?
muchas gracias amigo.

I am going to weigh-in on this, although as I was reading this thread, I was going to post on a different topic (Tony- Baja Cactus is a fine property,
but to say it's the best in Baja is not fair to a number of other hoteliers)
The pet thing. It appears that the majority of nomads are pet owners and pet lovers. What needs to be understood is that a substantial minority of
people, similar to peanuts, are allergic to pet dander. In the bigger palette of world-wide lodgings there are many properties who will deny access to
pets. It's an admittedly difficult choice to make. In the best of situations, folks who provide accomodations should make a conscious effort to
maintain a percentage of your rooms as pet-free.

Hi,
Thank you for bringing this to my attention... it is always very good to receive feedback, if it is positive it encourages us to keep going... if
negative it gives us an opportunity to fix mistakes and try to better ourselves... every comment is quite welcome.
Bajaboy... we are currently able to receive only American Express credit cards... it has been like this almost for a year now. There have been some
issues with the bank that have impeded us to resume taking Visa and/or Mastercard. We are still working on it, I will make sure to post it here when
this is resolved. In the meantime, we can receive any payments online via PayPal, and they do take any type or credit/debit card. Also... among those
little pending details is your observation to have open windows in the bathrooms... we are about to fix this.
Oxxo... Usually the rooms upstairs are never given to guests with pets. I will ask my staff to enforce this instruction so those rooms are always pet
free... May I as why you are unable to stay in rooms that accept dogs?... My cleaning staff has instructions to use special disinfectants whenever
they receive a room where a Guest with a pet stayed... Are there any other products/procedures you can suggest to further clean those rooms?

Antonio- I'm not really impressed with your post with respect to your dealings with Mastercard and Visa. Usually, such disputes involve the fees. That
being said, might I make a constructive suggestion? Raise your rates!!! You have a wonderful facility. You have a fantastic occupancy rate. Do you
really think you will lose any substantial business if you charged $5 more per room? Fact is that you have a very loyal customer base. I cannot
imagine anyone complaining if you raise your rates a bit. Folks are more comfortable with being able to use plastic.

I am very impressed with Antonio's response. I am happy to hear about security being stepped out in the parking lot as this is always a concern of
ours as well. I also like the idea of pet only rooms...like smoking rooms because animals leave behind dander and hair on the bedspreads etc. and
people are allergic to it. Good work amigo...mi respeto.

Bajahowodd,
Thank you for your nice comments... we have thought about raising rates and it may come to that... but for now I believe we can sustain our current
rates... specially because of all your support.
Regarding credit cards... the banking fee is not an issue... Both Amex and Visa/Mastercard charges almost the same commission... actually American
Express is a little bit higher.
Our problem is that in Mexico we do not have different merchants to process credit cards like in the US... there is only one merchant...and and you
can only hire that company through a bank... and since last year we began an administrative procedure to become a "Corporation", we have been having
some trouble to make the banking transition from our current fiscal status.
This process has been quite complicated and extremely time consuming, specially because of the Gas Station...we have had to coordinate with several
government institutions at the same time... and you know how bureaucracy is.
American Express is a totally different and independent entity... it does not go through any bank, therefore it has been easier to keep working with
them.
We do understand the necessity of receiving Visa/Mastercard and are doing the best in our part to resolve this matter... it is advancing... slowly but
it is being resolved.

Thanks for the response, Antonio. We've stayed with you many times. Just thought if it was a cost issue, you could well afford to raise rates. You
would still be an excellent value.

The rooms have tile floors and are easy to clean and disinfect.
Unruly dogs always reflect on their inconsiderate owners. Dogs should NEVER be allowed on the beds!!! It is not fair to people who have allergies. If
anyone, staff or visitors to a room, sees a dog on a bed they should be reported and put on a list to never be allowed to stay there again.
Dogs on beds are the major concern for hotel owners. That is the first thing they mention as a reason to not allow dogs. It is a valid concern and one
I can understand.
As always, inconsiderate people ruin it for responsible dog owners and for those whom pet dander and hair on a bed would be harmful to their health.

I know that Antonio can defend himself, I was stating the obvious... I did say suitcases, not quads... that is rediculous... Do you have a locked
chain securing your quads? I am just suggesting people take some responsibility for their own property. Isn't that a fair idea?
Thank you Antonio for your fast responce!
An English/Spanish sign asking people to be quiet at night 10pm-7am & respectful of hotel guests would be nice... The courtyard in front of the
office does echo the sounds.
