seiner with helicopter spotter off Loreto

This afternoon this seiner with a helicopter spotter was 15 miles north of Loreto at San Bruno Reef. They seemed to be scouting, and there was no sign of yellowfin in the area.

Amazing!

I guess they didn't read the thread about the Sea of Cortez being dead and fished out?

What country are they from Bill?

They must have taken a wrong turn somewhere along the line. Expect the owners will be getting bankruptcy papers filed as soon as they get out of the Sea of Cortez.

I don't know the nationality of the boat. It had a wind sock on the bow, but no flag was visible. The name of the boat is the Maria Rosana.

The IATTC shows effective 20 October 2000 a seiner by the name Maria Rosana as registered by Mexico to fish the eastern Pacific. The ship has a well capacity of 906 metric tons.

I saw that boat out there today. My panguera, Francisco/ Pancho/ Blacky said he would report them if they crossed in to the preserve.

Awesome Dorado bite on a dead whale today. I got 2 25lb bulls.

The sardina boats absolutely killed all fishing in Mulege the last several days. 30 boats moved in and worked it for a week it was DEAD

For everyone that told me not to take the trailer with 2 quads on the road from Puertocitos to Gonzaga, you were right. That road is really rough, sometimes steep and technical. I would`nt have made it without 4WD and extereme patience

RTS551 and Shari, see you on Tues or Wed

Otherwise trip is awesome (scallop tacos at Panchos in Mulege are the BOMB)

Did anyone go to the Pig roast at Panchos on Sun Night¿

Saludos

These vessels and air support are really bringing in a large shipment of cocaine! So convieniently, the Mexican Navy and other enforcement officials are at least 100 miles north or south of where this action is. They are not "just fishing".Be safe and don't go anywhere near these folks after dark!!! ++C++

What kind of whale is it? I was in the Ensenada harbor a couple of days ago and there was a dead whale about that size in the harbor and I was told it was a blue whale.

awww....so sad...this is a male sperm whale and looks pretty small...almost calf like...see the skinny lower jaw with the teeth and bulbous head.

dead sperm whale calf

Shari.......I don't know how big newborn sperm whales are, but this one was definitely a juvenile. I would estimate 20' - 25'. There were no obvious signs of injury.

yes, it probably was not a newborn...but I use the term calf for any whale under a year...then they are juveniles so this guy was probably in that vicinity between calf and juvenile...he has a small jaw...

I think that Shari has more than a little experience regarding whales. Appreciate her expertise.:)
