OTAY MESA CROSSING! ROAD REPORT

The road crossing into Mexico from the US is fairly congested now.
Two reasons:
1- The US is searching most SUV;s and trucks going into Baja, therefore there is only one lane available to cross into Baja.
THEN:
2- Once in, you are detoured several times before you even get to the first traffic light. The entire border crossing road is being reconstructed.
Coming back out is even worse, unless you have a Sentri. What used to be 4 lanes expanding into 8 border lanes is now just one lane for about a mile, then it expands into 8 lanes. Huge mess!
I used the Tecate crossing, today, Sunday, at 1:30 pm and it took only 15 minutes to cross.

I heard on the news a couple days ago that Mex. customs will be searching all vehicles going south at TJ and Otay starting July 1st ? That will sure back up traffic...

I drove thru Otay last weekend to the TJ airport,
road back was funky, even for Baja standards,
very little signage to the vehicle
crossing, (last Sun. noon, vehicle crossing
time 35 min.), yesterday I went
to pick them up, parked on US side,
walked thru, had some time to kill,
instead of a city bus I walked to the airport,
on return, took a taxi back to the pedestrian crossing
at Otay, no one in line at pedestrian
crossing, it appeared vehicle crossing
time half hr. Crossing time sure beats San Ysidro,
but roads at Otay are in disaray
especially if one is unfamiliar
with the area
