Globalstar satellite phone

Does anyone have any experience using the Globalsatr Satellite in Baja?

I am considering buying a Globalstar # GSP 1700 phone which is a lot less $ than the Iridium phones. They have a promotion for use is the USA, including Alaska for only $39.95 a month, unlimited incoming and outgoing. Naturally it is more for Mexico, $1.39 outgoing and .79 incoming.

So, how is the reception in Baja, especially Southern Baja?

Gracias

We replaced our Globalstar GSP 1700 phones because they would not work in Northern California (they are in a storage box rotting at this moment). The Globalstar plans looked really good on paper, but we only had a satellite overhead at around 1600 hrs PST. Globalstar provided us with a plan that provided Iridium phones until they could get more satellites overhead to make their own system work. I would suggest that you be very careful if you actually purchase their phone. Hopefully others have had more positive experiences with their system.
