This is not going to sit well with Hugo Torres

It seems one of his Rosarito "Tourist Police" was riding a quad on patrol and ran over an American tourist standing and waiting for his food at a food stand. Put the gringo into the hospital.

"We have never had problems with anybody, people who come from there (United States) no longer wants to come for the things that happen here, first because they kill people, then because the police are corrupt, we do not want to come, but what we can do, "said the woman while she broke into tears.

Mexican wife is peeed off but if the quad had hit her- it wouldn't have made the news at all.

I am reminded of the time a neighbor was pulled over by a 3 wheeler cop in La Paz, somehow the cop was run over and the neighbor arrested, a few weeks later he was out and he had a new nickname "Torrero". End of story.

I think you got that statistic reversed- only 15% of cops are totally illiterate the other 85% have a primary school educaton (6th grade) only. Doesn't sound any better though does it?

July 4th weekend was actually pretty good. The Rosarito Beach hotel had 100% occupancy.

I've often seen the similarity between bull fighters and pedestrians. There has to be a cultural connection there.

Things have improved down here as well. I haven't seen this much traffic for a while. Lots of California plates as well as Baja folks from Mexicali, hell on earth this time of year.

With all the deals I think they were pretty much giving away the rooms.

I do know this:

What happened in Rosarito stayed in Rosarito. Puerto Nuevo was well below average on Saturday. Friday & Sunday...nada.

The Blvd in Rosarito was packed with cars Sunday. I don't know where they were going- but they were out. Our beach was busy- but not packed like on previous 4ths. No sign of the Lifeguard Towers.

The city did put one "Canario" port-a-potty on the beach and the service dumped it each night. :tumble:

I was teasing my mother in law she should take control of the Canario and make some money- when another neighbor lady beat her to it. She charged 2 pesos and sat in a lawn chair but had no umbrella- amateur. lol.

The traffic could also be the "volunteers" in wheelchairs collecting money at each traffic lane at every traffic stop. I feel sorry for them- but you can't give at every corner and you feel bad if you don't. I hate being made felt bad personally- I'll bet I'm not alone, especially if you are on vacation with kids in the car. Like most of us, we give to the Red Cross and Salvation Army and shouldn't feel bad- but I still do.

Well, it seems like all hell is breaking loose again. One TJ cop was just murdered in La Gloria. What is different about this is that the killers left a sign on his patrol truck which says: "Que renuncie Leyzaola o van a matar a cinco por hora."

That means TJ Chief of Police Julián Leyzaola has to resign or they will kill five cops per hour. Then there was just word that a Rosarito cop was just killed and somewhere another cop was just wounded.

I hope you have the same news source as Jesse. This is very bad news. Juarez bad. A game changer if true.
