New golf course at Bahia de los Suenos?
Has anyone been out toward the Bahia de los Suenos project lately, south of La Paz? You know, the one that used to have the Giggling Marlin folks as
partners/investors? Been seeing any activity? I ask because of this:

Ore., and the stunning Cape Kidnappers resort course in New Zealand. He's also completing work on the highly-anticipated Old Macdonald Course at
Bandon Dunes.
Doak's Bahìa de los Sueños course - called Bay of Dreams - is scheduled to be complete later this fall with a grand opening set for 2010. The course
plays within feet of the Sea of Cortez, which Doak said presented some environmental challenges.

Yea what is wrong with Bay of the Dead? I believe that it is bad booty to rename a place. Particularly for commercial reasons.

Out there maybe three weeks ago kayaking...from Giggling Marlin (Now called El Cardon) one can see 4 or so holes of a golf course across the bay,
quite possible more or all are completed and we aould not have been able to see that. There's quite a bit of other construction going on out there
too. That's about all I know.

Last spring I had the occassion to be on the same plane with the developer and his attorney... they gave me a glossy brochure and told me about the
project.... $1,000,000usd homesites.. townhouses >500,000 a new airport capable of G5's/737's... private membership to course... they told me
between the 5-6 vodka/cranberry drinks they each had that clients were waiting for the place to be built... their first phase had to be to build a
small community on the northside(laPaz entry) to house the workers/employees and secondly to extend the runway to accomodate the big jets... the rumor
was that Calderon pushed the project thru w/help from Fox( a nearby landowner)... I haven't seen the worker's village built yet!!!

So what ever happened to Gary Wagner of Giggling Marlin fame and the Century 21 owner who started this all? Did they come out all right?
Bajajazz, would you please expand a little on Sonny Bono and his connection to Punto Arenas? I find it unimaginable that a member of Congress could
escape publicity if he was connected to drugs. I was living in Cabo then and never heard anything about that. Very, very curious.

Came across this thread, and as a representative of the developer of this project, I thought I’d pass along some updates as they relate to your
questions above. The 18-hole Tom Doak-designed golf course is indeed scheduled for completion this fall, with a formal Grand Opening slated for 2010.
Currently, nine holes are grown-in and playable (in fact, members of Doak’s on-site management team are playing them almost daily). The course uses a
salt-tolerant grass that requires less than ½ of the amount of water (provided by an on-site reservoir, or purchased from local wells) than other
courses in the area use. The construction and maintenance of the course has created more than 100 local jobs. Doak met with about a dozen members of
the golf media last week to discuss the project’s status. Steve Pike, author of the story linked above, was one of those writers.
As far as the naming of the local area, the bay itself is still of course Ensenada de los Muertos. The 4,300 acres of land encompassing the community
is Bahía de los Sueños. The developer is L.A.-based PCS Development, which announced managerial control of the property earlier this year. More info

Re: the newspaper article, that story was pretty off base. A series of firearms, and a small amount of pot, were found in a private residence at The
Bay, and Mexican authorities confiscated them. The firearms were being used for target practice, and while the firearms were legally registered in the
U.S., unfortunately, the owner had not done so in Mexico. As a result, the authorities stepped in.
We’ll keep an eye on this thread. If any new questions arise, I’ll do my best to answer them. In the meantime, you can find more details on the
