Mision Santa Maria Lions
I was just reading Graham McIntosh's "Journey with a Baja Burro". In the Santa Maria part, he mentions a few ferocious mountain lions living in the
area, does anyone heard anything about this lately? (I am going there in october)

Jide, we camped at the mission for two nights and never heard any cat screams. The rattlesnake that came right through my screen house was another
issue, however! http://vivabaja.com/403

I camped near the mission in the early 1980's and we did see LARGE cat prints in one of the side canyons less than 1/4 mile from the mission. So yes,
they are there....

I camped there with a group a few years ago with absolutely no problems inside the camper or tents.
Of course we staked out a small child just in case.
Another time, I met a Mexican with a mule camped at Yubay who was looking for a new calf before a "Tigre" got it. He showed me the paw prints.
My motto:
Never let a Dragon pass by without pulling its tail!

Mountain lion in here???
If you miss the tracks turning left to head up to the end of the bulldozed road (1.3 mi. east of the mission), this is where the tracks in the arroyo
come to an end. Beyond, the arroyo drops down a waterfall into the Santa Maria Canyon and out to the Sea of Cortez between Alfonsina's and Punta
Final.
