friday big swell in Asuncion...saturday & sunday
It has been an exciting day here today...lots of traffic out here at the point with folks checking out the crashing waves at the blowhole.
this is a photo of our house taken from the vigilancia shack at the point
the swell was too big on the outside so the kids were surfing in front of the coop out here at the point in the cove where the waves were
smaller...but they had fun
It was a spectacular day.
there i am taking photos
here was sunset last night just for fun

Great pics Shari! Thanks for sharing.
You mention the kids surfing in town. Are there some more experienced, older surfers in PA?. Where do they go for a swell like this?
When I saw Hippolito, it seemd like it could be an awesome point wave set up. Is it?
No worries

we have a big boy surf break too but i didnt go out there yesterday....san hipolito has a sweet wave too right in front of my sis in law's casa next
to the boat launch area for the coop as well as out at the lighthouse depending on the direction. It's still real big today but maybe a foot lower.
Still coating our windows with salt today...i'll have to hang my laundry up in town as it feels like it's raining at our place...the wind blows the
spray over the house.

Just a few miles south of town is what is known as Punta Choros---not on any map, but REALLY easy to find. It is where they hold the surfing
tournaments.
People also camp in that area at times---some really nice lonely
spots.
Gees, hate missing that big swell---thanks for the pics. Bet it was really loud at the blowhole!

Curt
CNN quoted the surf as 20 foot in the Sab Diego/LA area. Is that true?

Most breaks have likely seen 2-3' overhead surf.
There are spots such as Trestles and the Wedge in newport Beach that can be SIGNIFICANTLY larger.
I'm guessing there are some visitors in town
No worries

Ralph, Here is a pic loaded today from my forecast website. I am assuming it was taken this week.
This is the legendary "Wedge" in Newport Beach. It breaks in a very unique location up against a rock jetty in VERY shallow water. The wave peaks up
in the middle like a wedge. It is popular for bodysurfers and bodyboarders. Surfers pay a much heavier price for their sins here.
I'm not an expert on the wedge. Maybe some Nomads have more to clarify/ add to this description.
You can estimate the size of this wave for yourself!
No worries

Glad they are back---good ones and I really like seeing your pix bigger!
I can just hear those waves hitting the cliff.

today things are back to normal...about a 7' swell...nice rainbows at the blowhole this morning.
I thought some of you might like this photo of ensenadita...all the pangas are beached till the swell goes down and the gyspsy shed on the far
right(blue) and the soon to be (maybe) cantina below that...and a new big house being built like lingilingilingi's...

The Wedge
I know it's not Baja but near where I grew up and I use to bodysurf these. But not any bigger cuz that'd be crazy!

Sorry to bore those that could care less and also that I seem to have high jacked this post. But for the one ... or two that have an interest here's
more on "The Wedge". The reason people make a big deal about this place is not only the huge waves but the wedge that is formed when the wave hits the
breakwater and runs the beach at 90º and can be 6+'. Get caught in this and it well wreck your day/life. There can also be an undertow that has sucked
experienced bodysurfers into the breakwater.

A 50 yr old man died at the Wedge bodysurfing this weekend from the surf. Sucked into the rocks and seemed to have drowned.

Oh, Oh, The Wedge---Thanks for the nice photos Russ. I also grew up very close to that spot (early 50's and 60's) and have alot of fond
memories...There was an "I dare you" thing going around among the younger boys in those days, and many took some hard licks and poundings repeatedly,
if you could not get back on your two feet and get them planted in the sand immedietly after the wave broke, and let the back wash carry you back out
and swim over the next breaking face. After a few years the Newport Life Gaurds started to shut the place down when conditions got to big and
dangerous. ++C++
