CONFESSIONS OF A BEACHCOMBER
"Beachcomber"
To comb the beach of old cape cod
For treasures of the sea
I've followed the ebb tides across the sands,
As though it were a key.
To the golden harvest of Neptune's realm
Put there for me to see.
And as I gazed at the beautiful gems
That lay there on the shore
The tide rushed in and locked me out,
So I could gaze no more.
Till this turning tide exposed again
The bottom of the sea.
I helped myself to the treasure there
And brought them home with me.

Hey Pomp--What became of the Sea Star? Poor little boat. Hard to tell just where that is- but from the look of the spooked Caspian Terns maybe it
could be central Calif. Coast or maybe the Ore. Coast? Nice to see your back. ++C++

Hi Crusoe,
Yes, California's Pescadero Beach south of Half Moon Bay..near Pidgeon Pt.
The beached Sea Star was finally pulled off by this Coast Gaurd patrol boat. Not too much damage done, but some tense times for it's crew.
Kudos to the CG.

Crusoe, do you still have your rowing/sailing dory with the red sail? I took a photo of you and your partner way back when, offshore of Conception
Bay. I think it was about 1979 or so...maybe earlier? Some time has passed.
Hint on the terns: I don't think they are Caspian terns. These guys are quite a bit smaller. About the size of a sandpiper. Total black head, not
just the top of head. Shown with the giant white pelicans...and this was not on a Pacific beach, but rather an Ontario one.

Hey there Pomp, Indeed a small world. Glad you could remember the old 27ft. open St. Pierre sailing dory with the red sails and taking our picture a
couple miles east of Conception Bay. That would have to have happened in 1975,76, 77, or 78. We had many wonderful trips in those years with no motor
assist. Just two big sets of oars (two people rowing) and alot of dumb Norwiegen willpower, stuborness, and alot of cases of canned Tecete, which was
drunk by the gallons.Heavy boat to row! We made a deal--for every gallon of water we needed at least 3 gallons of beer. We had 100 gals. water, and
food for 3 months, plus caught lots of fish on those trips. The most fun was hanging out with the remote Mex. fiherman we would run across all up and
down the whole Penninsula and on the Pacific side, and sharing meals and laughs and hearing all there stories. Ate alot of Turtle Soup--Whoops-- Had
many great adventures.We sold her in 1982 to purchase a boat with an enclosed cabin.Have a great trip back to Coyote. ++C++

Roger, fun pic's as always...
...funny you should mention Pidgeon Pt. area...that's one of our 'hang outs', as there's a parking area just south of the lighthouse that's county
property, and you park there overnight without any hassles...it's on a bluff, with the surf massaging the rocks below...a great plate to enjoy the
sea!
The State of Calif has 'locked' up all the good places to overnight there on the coast, and this spot near the lighthouse is just about the only
'free' place left!
We grew up not far from the Half Moon Bay area, and I have many, many fond memories of some great weekend beach parties there in my youth!

Well dang it, Ray, I sure wish I had known you were in that area. We would have had a good get-together. And I agree, it's getting harder and harder
to 'boondock' or find a reasonable RV site on the California coast. Actually the Half Moon Bay State Beach park was very nice..and a bargain beach
front site, too. (I do have a list of some freebies from San Diego to Cape Flattery, but I am sworn to secrecy, upon pain of death by Pacifico
deprivation.)
You will recognize some of these Pescadero area places then.
Soto's Diner (where I parked a two nights hooked up to the cafe's power and water..$20 donation and suppers in the cafe...great spot next to the
beach.) Plus I spent a night at that place you mentioned south of the point, but it was a trifle wet with morning fog!
The Pidgeon Point lighthouse and adjoining hostel. Rather unique lodgings, which we did not need.
