Cabalgata--Bahia Asuncion Fiesta

And I hope that is correct??

I know Shari has some great pictures she will post of the huge group of horses as they reached the beginning of town---as they prepared to enter the town.

While most of them had ridden for many miles, some people joined them as they arrived. We waited in town for them to arrive so wanted to share a few pix from a little different perspective than Shari's

The padre and with the virgin from the church went to lead them into town.

The queen had joined them

Well greeted

At the Delegacion they stopped, a small band played and there were religious greetings from the padre and the crowd.

Just one we like---

Part of the group

Cutest one

Always ready to sell to a gathering.

From there, they proceeded to the church

There they were officially blessed by the crowd and the padre with the sprinking of holy water.

I guess it does not matter in what they keep the holy water---plastic coke bottle will do just fine.

Really was fun and quite a treat to see them enter the town---

John and Diane

this was a fantastic sight...seeing all the horses and cowfolks in their duds riding through town...a band playing Las Mañitas to the virgin. Here are a few more pics of the event...it was impressive to see 5 generations riding together....they rode for 6 hours stopping for a big BBQ at a ranch..some of the girlfriends and wee ones joined them at the end.

the burro is a new addition to the Cabalgata this year...ridden by Bebo Jr. who some of you may know from San Roque and Baja Boy's neighbour.

my nephew Noe and his novia

and rigo jr and senior...who many of you know from riding their horses at the beach house

and the Virgin sure gets around during the fiestas...she gets to take a spin around the island on a panga as well as be in a horse parade!

What a wonderful tradition. Thank you for sharing your photos. The young man on the burro got my attention!

My horse could learn a lot from the Baja horses about attitude and patience.

Thanks again,

Probably not. Mexicans tend to treat their animals more harshly than you would. Animals to us are pets. Even the prize caballo of the Charro is still a beast of burden...albeit a noble burden.
None the less, you wouldn't want a Charro to work your horse....or take care of you pooch.

I was so impressed how those horses all stood around for like an hour just at the entrance to town...waiting for the band to gather...very very patient...like their kids...very well behaved...cause they know...oh oh...if they dont...there will be alot of pain involved.

Maybe I could get a package deal for one 6 year old Quarter horse and a 14 year old teenager?
