Horse Races, Baja Style

We finally made it out to one of the local horse races---really quite an experience. One is right next to the track and many of the men stand at the end of the track until the horses practically run them down! We missed a picture of that because they on had one race that day.

Couple of pix

Getting Ready

A very hyper horse

Difficult to get pictures as it happens so fast!

Interested spectators---here they come

There they go

He ran down the track almost as fast as the horses---do you think his horse won? He is just a little happy

Another happy one

And just a little different one.

Fun time.

Diane and John

Horse races are my favorite event of the fiestas...It isnt the actual race that is impotant...it is all the preamble...the beer tent, live band, cowboys dressed in their finest duds, the horses arriving, getting prepared, saddling up, parading, and of course the race...then the celebration after.
Here is my favorite jockey saddling up...note the serious onlookers who are deciding whch horse to bet on....checking out the horse and how is is acting and his relationship with the jockey

Horse whispering

and here are all the guys at the finish line

another photo of the happy owner who won...his trademark is dancing around with a tecate balanced on his head waving a big wad of bills in his hand...some of you will recognize my brother in law Chepe there with him with the big smile...i guess he has a part in this win too.

Gracias, Diane, John y Shari, those were great. Really captured the flavor of the tension and expectation, the race, and then it was over so fast. The horse whisperer pic. was my favorite. Love it.

Great pictures

Duke called and let me know how great the family thought the races were.

Can't wait to get down there this fall.
