Mood: Have Baja Fever

[*] posted on 8-26-2009 at 05:18 PM

Today (in Southern coastal California) was one of our first 'normal' dry HOT summer day, as well! Was 97º in Escondido and 86º five miles from the coast at my home. weather said it would be 110-115 in our local deserts today... and the heat will continue for the next 4 days.

Damn hot here on the Oregon Coast, too, Russ. Not the place where one would expect 86 degree temps. But..it is August, the hot month.

Cooling off now, though..down to 81 on the beach at Lincoln City.

I can remember digging a well in western ND in August when the afternoon temps hit 112. Jeez..I wish I could lose weight today as fast as I did that day!

If you get near Newport, try and find Baja Rob and Connie (of Bahia Santa Maria) who are up there for the summer... There's a sea food restaurant called Sharks also, I hear!:D

Pompano, lots of nice salmon in the Rogue estuary and you are fairly close, a bit cooler too. The voices in my tackle box are saying I should be there tomorrow.

Side-tracked in TJ...............?

98? The "hot" part of town? ;D

I was on the TJ beach yesterday afternoon, quite a bit west of centro as you know, probably mid-80s, pretty much as hot as it gets.

Let's see....where was I?
Crossed south around 11:00 , took the fence road up and over the hill and found the entrance to the toll road closed so, went straight to the Rosarito turn off by the Army base. Up and over that hill, desending towards Rosarito, my dash thermometer read 98.
Went straight to Dave's place for a cold one.

That's Dave's Place...Margaritaville, Puerto Nuevo. Coldest beer in town with Dave at the door and a five star blond beauty behind the bar....just cuter than a basket full of speckled pups.
That's Margaritaville [or Dave's Place, if you prefer]

Seems to me you have the best year-round weather in all of baja. Perhaps a bit cool in the winter, but nice. How do you think your temperatures compare to Ensenada?

That's quite an interchange construction project that's going on isn't it?

Carambola at Dave's place? I've just discovered that and I think it's great. Very challenging.

Weather is so...personal. I think Asuncion has great year round weather...all things considered. It is 75 degrees in our house right now...doors closed with 59 percent humidity...real humid today from the tropical storm offshore...swell is down a bit but still raging and salting up our windows.

We have been above 100 half the summer near the AZ/Mexico border. Normally we don't get above 98. Most people are not aware that Phoenix sits in a hole at around 1600 feet and as you travel South thu Tucson (2600 feet) toward the AZ/Mexico border you are climbing to a min of 4,000 feet on the border at Nogales. It has been HOT & DRY. The lack of monsoon rain has been hard on everything living!

Pompano, go south to Gold Beach for the 70ish and am fog. Stayed at Lobster up the river Tues. very comfy. Saw maybe a hundred boats on the mouth and actually someone land a small salmon in a Gregor boat. The fog actually sent us back to the valley for summer weather. Did some rock houndin on Smith R and Illinois. Oh yes, the road down the Rogue to Agness was quite an adventure too.
