link
When you see a link with some letters/numbers on the end that aren't highlighted in blue whike the rest is it's because the whole link wasn't
recognized due to a character, in this case the comma. So, just click at the end of the characters and drag select the entire link, copy, open a new
window and paste.
Click at the end
Double Click to select the entire contiguous link
cntrl + c to copy
cntrl + t to open a new tab window
cntrl + v to paste the url in the new tab url field

You realize, of course, that the guy who said violence was down was fired two weeks later by President Calderon.

From: http://www.csmonitor.com/2009/0819/p10s01-woam.html (Aug 16th)
"What progress has President Calderón made dismantling cartels?
Since Mr. Calderón took office in December 2006, more than 11,000 have been killed in cartel-connected deaths, according to running tallies in the
local press. The attorney general's office says that 9 of 10 victims are members of organized-crime groups. Most violence has occurred in the state of
Chihuahua. The government says violence is the unwelcome result of its clampdown: Groups have splintered, creating more turf wars.
Others are not convinced.
The Trans-Border Institute at the University of San Diego analyzed the number of drug-related killings in the first six months of 2009, comparing it
with the last six months of 2008, and found a 5 percent drop. "
----------------------------------------------------------
From: http://www3.signonsandiego.com/stories/2009/sep/12/deadly-vi...
"TIJUANA — Authorities are reporting a new wave of violence in Tijuana: 19 homicides in the first eight days of September.
The year is shaping up to be the second-deadliest in the city's history.
The Baja California Attorney General's Office logged 405 homicides between Jan. 1 and Friday. That's less than half of the record-smashing 843
homicides recorded in 2008, but 68 more than in all of 2007. "

This what happens when three week old news stories get posted. Sorta like waiting for last month's stats on the economy. We do not live in a static
world.

Rosarito has been cleaned up for sure. I know who the bad guys are in my area and one by one they have all been taken out. The last guys "safe
house" for human cargo was taken out in a hail of gunfire friday night. He's in custody and the people were freed. Now the neighbors are coming out
like the house fell on the bad witch or something. It's amazing how different the feeling is from just a year ago. Really.

I asked the cab driver who took me to the Tijuana airport on Thursday if things were mas tranquilo and he said yes. I suppose he would be in a
position to know.
But I also heard, when I got to La Paz, that cartel members, disguised as federal police, with cars, uniforms and fake papers were able to spring 15
hombres muy malos from jail. There were 'have you seen these guys' posters all over the city.
So maybe it's a wash.
Experience enables you to recognize a mistake every time you repeat it.

IMHO the cartels wil be fighting everyone including themselves forever. I was talking about there being less acts of violence in public places in the
the daytime and a safer feeing in general for the public. A lot of the minor players took advantage of the security situation during the past year
and now they have either been arrested, killed, entered rehab or just ran away.

One article I referenced above said 9 out 10 deaths were members of organized-crime groups.
The article reference below states that there have been 13,500 deaths since Calderon started the war.
That's about 12,000 dead narcos.
It also says that 80,000 drug arrests have been made. Who knows what percentage are still in jail, I would guess the percentage is pretty high given
the guilty to proven innocent tradition, which I understand is coming to an end.
Anyway, what? 90,000 narcos off the street by death or jail since 2006?
Woooosh said things are better in Rosarito, I live in TJ and I think things are better here.

There's a local blog site, which will go unnamed here, that continually gives a litany of killings in the region. She refers to every killing as an
execution ?????
Anyway, she gives references and to believe the reporting, it doesn't sound as though there's any lull in the activities.

Maggie is thorough however it's tough for me to draw any conclusions about the effectiveness of the war from her "daily police blotter" reporting.
Maybe some of her ilk could add a comment about that.

For the Español challenged, it's about all there is. The Chamber Of Commerce would have everybody believing that there's peace in the streets and
that's just not the way it is.
She has persona non grata status here so I wont even use her name.

I have never heard of her or the rosarito crime blog- so I live here in the bliss of ignorance. Not so thrilled about my perception of safety not
being reality if this is true. Nomads know how rare it is for me to post about feeing safe and more secure here.
One very interesting locals tactic: I noticed the safe house the police broke into the other night to free the hostages had a "for rent" sign on it
within hours of the event. If anything bad happenned at my house I would def put a "for sale" or "for rent" sign on it so the bad guys would think
everyone who lived there was already gone too.

I've been comming to BC Norte for years and nothing bad aside the local cop looking for Mordida, has ever happened to me. I look at it this way I dont
sell drugs, I dont use drugs, I dont hang out where drugs are sold I've got no problemo so far. plus I just joined the Rosarito Footprinters I've been
told my membership card is basically a "Get out of jail free card" not that it would ever come to that. So I'm not concerned in the least.
