Current availibility of ULSD fuel
Is anyone aware of the current availability of ULSD fuel in Baja and Baja Sur, Mexico? We would like to drive our motor home down Baja. But how
far we can go will depend on the current availability of ULSD fuel in Baja and Baja Sur, Mexico? We have a 08 Winne with a Cummins ISB. (90 gallon
tank..8-9 MPG)
If ULSD fuel is now available, other than close to the border, does anyone know where I can get a updated list of locations? That would help in
planning our trip.
Thank you

GPW- I take my 08 Alpine Coach down every year as far as Loreto. So far as I know, there is no ULSD. I wind up running about one tank of non-ulsd
thru the system. The particulate filter clean cycle has run twice.
Before buying the rig I checked it out with Cummins. One interesting fact was that ULSD wasn't universally available when the engines first came out.
Cummins best advice was that running a few tankfuls of non-ulsd wouldn't hurt anything as long as the cleaning cycles could run unimpeded. So I try
to run the tank way down by the time I get back to the states, then tank up so the clean cycle happens with clean ULSD. Works great so far. YMMV

This has been covered several times on this forum. Lower sulfur level is available to El Rosario, below that the distributor is different and you
will get the higher sulfur levels. It is still not well agreed upon if this is a problem or not since we have had several people run their new
engines over 200,000 miles on the higher sulfur level fuel.

All Baja Norte Pemex comes from the same depots that Tijuana and Mexicali use... all are ultra low now and have been for some time.... this is per a
Pemex distributor and Baja Nomad member.

I know this subject has come up over and over which has been important to us as one son has a 2009 Dodge Diesel. While it is not a real problem since
he has now bought a second older truck for his Baja travels, as he does not want to void his warrenty. I am curious--
Two of our neighbors in Baha Asuncion, one from Canada and one from California---both own diesel trucks and said their dealers told them to not buy
2009 trucks, but the little older ones were fine for the fuel available in Baja. I do not remember the cut off year they said???
Does anyone know if it was 2007 or 2008?
