mulege to tecate
we left mulege on monday after a week and a half of mucking out our house...roads were good for the most part but lots of construction between san
quintin and ensenada and between ensenada and tecate....really rough stuff...we saw a huge motorhome that had t boned a big ol gravel semi truck just
south of ensenada in the fog..not a pretty picture...they were still trying to get the folks out of the motor home when we passed...the fog is really
really thick right now...slow going..stayed at la jardines in san quintin and, as usual, it was lovely; carmen and fernando are such great hosts..call
ahead for reservations as they are booked every night...plan on huge delays as the construction and fog really slows things down, not counting the
buses, semis, TONS of animals on the road feeding on the lush vegetation and associated other stuff....we stayed at los caracoles in guerrero negro
but got a HORRIBLE case of food poisoning at their restaurant from, what i believe, a bad bunch of camarones...sick, beyond comprehension, for two
days...then, beachgirl got a horrible cold from her reduced immune system after mucking out the slimy, stinky, dusty, muddy crap in our place and is
still now recovering...i can't wait to sleep in our own bed up here for a week or so before heading back down with another load...we are really,
really wiped out from this experience but are headed back for more...we love mulege

Good news via a Mulege pal that there is now water....running water....in The Oasis! That should help the clean-up process. Soon as we can stop
honking into tissues, and cut out the coughing, fill the 4 Runner with our ever growing list of replacement stuff from Jimena (uh, now about 5 pages
long), we are out of here. Doradeo are waiting! Junga's MUST miss us for c-cktail hour, and I just KNOW there are snook in that river!

i drove up wed towing a trailer
14 hours to tecate
not too bad
back on saturday
the roads are good
gas is everywhere
i saw no animals
but i'm sure they do come out with all the greenery
there is a bad spot south of ensenada but very passable
fog lifted by 2pm when i was in ensenada but it was cool
30 miles of bad road from ensenada to tecate
slow going
20 minute border wait at tecate
comming back EVERY car was checked at otay mesa
EVERY one
not too busy
new import people were nice and professional
no problems

cypress...bad ANYTHING will just about kill ya...especially those mariscos...i think this was just ONE bad shrimp...i actually thought about it when i
ate it...i thought, "does this taste different?"...i really did...my fault.....so...we're headed back south with in a week and a half or so...if we
can bring down anything for anyone, let us know, and....IF we have the room, we'll be right on it...whew!

Mike....sheesh...too bad you passed us by on your way north. I think a home cooked meal would have been better!!
...we have been saving these ribs for you but thought we'd better see if they were getting freezer burn...so we ate one rack with family and
friends...but are saving your burro for when you can get over here....they were nothing short of stupendous and not freezer burned at all. Look
forward to spoiling you two...safe trip.

Oh boy, Shari, those ribs look super! Right now it's pretty much chicken soup and Vit C. I'm slathered in Vicks VapoRub, which I love so much it's
almost worth having a nasty cold for an excuse to use the stuff....MM won't get near it...or me!

Food poisening!!
I suggested to the better half that we better lay off going out to dinner, especially seafood, for a few weeks after Jimena. Shrimp, oysters, scallops
and even cabrilla are expensive, for locals also, and not having been refrigerated during the power outage, could likely be spoiled, at least bad. And
the local restaurants would probably be reluctant to throw them out and take a chance by serving them.
With you as the trial recipient.

I have never been sick when eating where the locals eat, even from the street vendors. When I have been sick, it is from eating from a "nice" white
table cloth gringo restaurant....and yes I wanted to die to get relief.

Spoiled, unfresh shellfish has got to be the leading cause of getting sick... Lack of refrigeration/ ice and unfresh product... Can happen when the
food server gives you something bad. Happened to me in San Felipe in 2003 after a clam c-cktail from one of the fish taco stands in the food courtyard
there... Thought I was going to die...!
