I looked at that and it sure does look like that great picture of Ken's.

I have always admired that photo a lot.

Ken is it yours? If it is and they had your permission, GREAT.

But if it is and they didn't have permission, :fire::fire::fire::fire:

I know that is the danger of the internet, and people even take ones with signatures without permission, but it just ain't right.

Ken Bondy's Photo

I just scanned the December 2006 page of Marv Sherrill's Baja Calendar... featuring Ken's blue whale photo:

I have been asked to use that photo many times and I always say yes as long as a photo credit is included. I don't recognize this group and I don't immediately see a photo credit , but I am away from a computer at the moment (on an iPhone) so viewing is a little awkward. Fernando do you know this group? Thanks for letting me know about this ++Ken++

I received an invitation via email to attend this event this weekend and it had the web address. When I opened it your picture was on the flash presentation and the inside pages and as a poster on the gallery. I see that it's an event organized by several government agencies and sponsored by businesses. At the bottom it says it was designed by Inventi http://www.inventimedia.com/ a company in Corona California.

The reason I asked is, some years back, I did a collection of "Dump Kids" photography. I had gifted only a few prints to friends and one day I saw the local Rotary Club using them for fund raising. Kinda peeed me off but, those I would voice my complaint with were Rotarians. It taught me to be more careful.

The irony of this case with Ken's photos, if there is any, is the concept of the show being protection of brand name and rights. I guess that's just for special people.

Trouble with this stuff is that once you put it on the net, it becomes pretty much public domain.

It is sad and so many times, people just need to ask.

On many sites, people do post their photos with a copyright signature on the photo. I wonder if that provides any protection????

A photo the quality of this one ----well, as Ken said, he has allowed it to be used and all he asked for was credit, and he WELL deserved credit.

That would pretty much put an end to the "Stock Photography" business.
I'm not sure one can copy a picture off the net and use it to promote a business, Ed. There has to be protection.

Dennis,

I have attended a number of Photography Seminars recently and according to the photographers the "stock photography" business is pretty much gone. One photographer who did some stock work has now replaced it running Photo Tours both stateside and overseas.

Ken

I am rethinking putting copyright watermarks on my photos.

The only time I've seen content taken down off the web is after the lawyers get involved. And that takes money. So, unless one is wealthy and will spend the money, the caveat is that once you put something out there, it is in the public domain.

It's a good idea. I think I've seen software that will do it for you.

Ferna....This is getting a little technical for me but, what did they do other than sell the name, "Hecho En Mexico"?
We here arn't lawyers. What we are here is self-rightous moralists who are wondering who supplied the unlicensed photos to the website designer who sold them to the organization putting on the show.

And we all have our times when morals are compromised. Then others can become self-righteous moralists.

Guilty----probably because the best whale tail photo I have has about 6 strands of water streaming off which makes me appreciate this photo even more----so I will in a very self-righteous way, say these people are creeps, whoever they are, unless they give Ken the credit.
