My wife thinks I'm an idiot

Hear me out before agreeing with her:
Last trip down to Gecko (BOLA) I took a load of windows to put in the front porch and on the list of things-to-so was to get a bigger pila. When we first got the place we went with our landlord’s recommendation and got the small 450 liter one as during the night the camp water would fill it up. No problem until the whole camp water thing went south and now she-who-must-be-obeyed says I got to fix the water thing or she’s not coming down. Fine. For a moment I contemplate this trade-off but think better of it.
Next trip into town I start looking for a big pila but no one has one until I get to the local hardware store and he says he has a few out back. Sure enough, a brand new 1100 liter one. I go out to the truck, grab my tape measure and discover it won’t fit in the bed as I have a camper shell. I go back in and say, ‘quanto dinero?’ and he says, “dos mil”, I nod my head, hum a bit, and then he quickly adds “y dos cien’. I say “Dollars por favor?” and he grabs his calculator and shows me $183. Well, alright, a little more than what it would cost in Ensenada, 12-to-one exchange rate is not too bad considering, but it wouldn’t fit in the truck any way so I say OK, and then I tell him but only if he can deliver it to me “hoy” as I’m leaving in the morning. I then drive the hard bargain:”I’ll give you $100 now and $83 on delivery”. No problem, definitely this afternoon at the latest and I’m off.
Much to my surprise, I hadn’t been back to camp over an hour when a middle age man in one of the most unbelievable pickups I’ve ever seen comes into camp with my pila strapped to the top. He pulls up and starts untying the pila and sets it on the ground. As I had pulled a muscle in my lower back a few days before and it was really getting sore, I handed him 5 bucks and pointed to my roof. He looked a little funny but then a guy I had hired to do some tile work came out and said he would help. So the tiler crawls up on the roof and the delivery guy and I grab the pila and start to lift. His hand slips off the bottom of the pila and on its way up to get a better hold he uppercuts me a good one and knocks my glasses off and I’m seeing stars. He drops the pila on my toe and now I’m hopping around, holding my nose and my foot, trying not to step on my new glasses and the tiler guy is just rolling on the roof laughing his a** off while the delivery guy is mortified to no end. I think this guy is going to start crying, that’s how bad he feels. Anyway, everything gets right and the guy gets back into his truck but runs out of gas. I have to pour a gallon of my boat gas in to get him back to town. Sheesh.

So, I get home and show my wife pictures of the new pila, now she can shower every day and so can I, for that matter, and tell her the whole story and she just looks at me a says, “You’re an idiot, you paid $200 pesos more than you should have because you didn’t say ‘OK’ right away.”
Hummm, you think she might have a point?

Not a very good one after all you went through....just for her. Tell her it's exactly what a lady in need of a shower would want and you know that because you had it tested before you left.

I don't think that men understand how the male mind works either!

Great story Santiago! And while I should show solidarity with a sister, I really think the right response from your wife was "thank you, honey" :dudette:

Ah, if we had all that money back for all the times one of us has not quite done it with the maximum benefit-----200 pesos here, 200 pesos there. Has happened so many times.

Suggestion, with the big ole pila maybe you can sell some showers to some campers and you can make up that 200 pesos in a flash.

GREAT story.

Not sure if you're asking about SWMBO or jeans but as I live with the former and the latter knows how to shoot I'm not touching that line.....

Since you were not seriously hurt, the story is a great giggle.
As for the idiot thing...."She who must be obeyed" might consider the big picture and gush a little gratitude that she will shower in greater comfort thanks to your efforts and not bust your onions over 20 bucks....but that's just me.

I'd a been quite appreciative you found the right size pila, ordered it, was delivered promptly and hoisted on the roof without any involvement on my part and to heck with a coupla hundy pesos. Oh and did I mention what a great idea to settle final payment upon delivery. Great Job!
