Commercial Flight Prices
I would like to hear people chime in on their experience with flying into Baja via a commercial airlines to La Paz, Cabo, or Loreto, TJ.
What I mean by experience, is price and airline!!!
Thanks!

For Loreto, Alaska Airlines from Los Angeles is the only game in town from the USA. They recently switched to a smaller jet and the fares are
astronomical, $400 round trip IF YOU ARE LUCKY.
Bring back Delta airlines as the fares dropped in half when Alaska had competition.

Why don't you just go on Travelocity or a site like that and look up the price for yourself?

Because they don't offer air fare tips like personal experience does.

Come on Howard, you don't remember the days of AeroCalifornia and their junker DC-9's that were at least 25 years old. I used to chringe everytime I
flew those planes in and out of Loreto.
Give me Alaska/Horizon and their new fleet of 737's and Bombardier aircraft anytime, anywhere. Yes, they are the only game in town at the moment, BUT
at least they are still flying into Loreto.
If you take the time to go online and get your ticket a month or two in advance, you can still find some deals. My friend is flying in Dec 3 round
trip from Eureka for $408.00. That doesn't seem so bad to me when you consider driving down here. Flying is safer and cheaper.

We'll be flying with Alaska from Boise for less than $400 RT.

And if you are really LUCKY, you might get to fly down to your Baja destination on the "Salmon-thirty-Salmon"!

The best deal I had found was TIJ to LAP for $98 R/T on Volaris but that wouldn't be much help from Colorado.
My favorite search engine for flights from the US has been www.kayak.com

But AeroCalifornia had flights that left Loreto in the morning, and that left LAX in the afternoon. You could make connections. Round trip flights to
Montana with no overnight layovers. On Alaska/Horizon, we usually have overnights in LA or Seattle that add around $200 to the round trip price.
By the way, I think we have an unused AeroCalifornia ticket, round trip Loreto to LAX and back.

Oh! You poor Babies.!
It was Great Fun. in 1972 to get on the old DC# or better yet the Convair 880 from TJ to Guerrerro Negro to Mulege to Loreto and La Paz.
Returned North the next Day. $29.,00 Round Trip TJ to Loreto.
I have had to many bad Experiences with Alaska Airlines that i would drive before I fly with them again.
It is fairly easy to fly to La paz and Bus up to Loreto, Mulege.
Have Fun!

Did a quick search on Travelocity - non-stop Denver to Cabo was around $425 on Frontier. It's about a three hour flight. Cabo will have the most and
cheapest flights. There were several choices out of Los Angeles (LAX) but only the one out of Denver. Hope that this information helps.

My wife and I fly 2/3 times a year from DC to Cabo and then usually drive to La Paz- she's a wonder and we usually pay about $325 RT and sometimes
less- either Delta through Atlanta or Continental through Houston- just have to log on daily and check Travelocity and sign up for low fare notices--

Between the spike in fuel costs last year and the economic downturn, airlines have had to make decisions the ensure their suvival. For the most part,
that has meant cutting back capacity, whether decreasing the number of flights or using smaller aircraft. Either way, if fewer flights have few or no
empty seats, there is no pressure whatsoever for the airlines to lower fares. There are, of course, certain things one can do to get the best possible
fares. Obviously, travelling during holidays and Spring Break is not one of them. Try to fly mid-week. Flights to Cabo, for instance are influenced by
the time share schedules. Although even that has relaxed a certain amount. Time was that virtually all time share weeks ran from Monday to Monday or
Saturday to Saturday. That still is a problem.
One thing folks should also realize is that your tickets to Loreto, La Paz, or Cabo actually include around $100 in taxes and fees (including the
FM-T).
As for Aerocalifornia, Loretana, I think you were too kind by referencing 25 year old planes. Most, if not all their fleet were acquired from Republic
Airlines when they took over Hughes Airwest. They were originally Airwest planes that are more likely closer to 40 years old.

They can raise fares all they want, but they'll have to do it without me. I'll drive this year.
