Mulege 500 Off Road Race Action in Asuncion!
It was a mini version of the Baja 1000 but lots of fun. The Mulege 500 starts in San Igancio and takes the coast route through the fish camps to
Asuncion and goes the old road to end in Guerrero Negro. There were about 60 motorcycles, quads and trucks in this event from around the mid baja area
from BOLA to Sta.Rosalia and looked like just local mexicano teams. No big sponsors, no scantily clad tecate girls, no helicopters, no big hollywood
type pits, no big names but we did get the adrenalin rushes from the loud, souped up trucks as they spun into the pit areas to fuel up and tweek
engines.
Here is a little photo album of some of the vehicles.

I'm surprised this event doesnt draw more attention...we already talked about getting better organized for next year with a beer tent, comentator,
food sales etc. as it was really a great day watching all the guys speed by and do their pit things. If any tourists were in the area, it would have
been a really fun thing to attend...any of you Abreojos amigos watch it?

We spent some time along pit row around 9am. Pretty serious stuff.
Did the course extend all the way down to Abreojos?
When we realized there were no Pacifico or Tecate girls in attendance, WE BAILED!!!!

This is the first year. It is part of a Mulege circuit. Ascuncion is the only town of any size without a racing team. And yes my son is a member
of the Abreojos Racing Team (quad 149a).

Well, it all becomes clear now. This is the event Tiger Woods was practicing for the other morning. The "Worlds Greatest Athlete" is full of
surprises.

I like Off-Road racing in Baja and after I retire next year I plan to come down for many events like this one. Often the smaller local events like
this one can be very exciting and great fun.

tiger will have to put some pounds on to compete with these athletes...check out this driver's build...I wondered if there is an advantage like having
lots of ballast keeps ya huggin the trail better or something...this team is from a butcher shop in GN! It was cool watching him pry himself out of
that bug.
any word on who won?

Neat site but there wasnt anything about the Mulege 500 in it at all...not on the calendar...some nice rigs for sale...maybe we could get a nomad team
together
some of you may recognize Bimbo, Noe etc...the San Hipolito cheerleaders who would be our pit crew.

Next years schedule should be released soon. Tortugas was in Feb last year. The best one is San Ignacio which was in April.
Many different classes for winners Shari. Overall is usually a motorcycle.
for 500 kilometers we have to pit 4 times. So you may need a larger cheerleading crew.

I think that's a great idea Diver. The FJ is meant to be more of an antique though and collectable in the long run. What I was hoping Shari was that
one of these guys ran out of money in Bahia Asuncion and needed to unload his hotrod. Would be fun ripping to San Roque along the beach to pickup
mussels in style.
Diver, you coming down this year?
